Nature is healing...
Friendly reminder that it's bandcamp Friday!
Maybe this is a wishful impression, but I feel like I'm seeing more people reading books on transit that their screens lately. Probably because of The Horrorsβ’οΈ...
Cartoon showing a street with depressed people walking like zombies, all looking at the screens on their phones, with only their faces lit up by the blue glare from the screens. The only colorful part of the image is behind a window, where a woman is reading a book. The books casts a warm yellow glow, like sunlight, on her face.
Less screens, more books. Cartoon from last year.

As the threat of armed global conflict increases β and its reality makes itself felt β what can be done to protect invaluable cultural heritage? At least we now have a roadmap, writes a leading expert in the field
Ah, so thatβs why they blew up a school and killed hundreds of girls. AI. Of course.
In 2006 I told the late (great) Prof. Ray Gillespie that I wanted to publish every surviving scrap from the 1766 religious census, by 2016. I missed the π―by 10 yrs, but π to report that on the 260th anniv. it's done. Everything, >50k names & population details, now online.

I don't see the resemblance, apart from the shirt colour. Different hairlines, eyebrows, and ears.
The richest man owns X.
The second and third richest men control Google.
The fourth richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The fifth richest man owns The Washington Post.
And now the sixth richest could soon take over both Paramount and Warner Bros.
See the problem here?
Pro tip, and I can't believe I have to say this but, please don't use Ai gen text in your research or job application. It does not reflect well on you in any way, shape, or form.
A page from the 1900 US census in Cincinnati Ohio.
Family historians already know what happens without vaccines. The 1900 US census asked married women how many children they had and how many are living. I pulled this one up randomly. Household after household reports dead children. Vaccines, along with antibiotics, are miracles. #genealogy

βThe numbers tell a painful story. The impact on journalists of color is staggering and devastating,β the Post Guild said in its statement on Friday. βWe cannot ignore what this means for equity, representation, and the future of this organization.β

Nauseating.
I canβt believe you lefty Luddites hate tech so much that you embrace mRNA vaccines, heat pumps, electric bikes, hybrid work, renewable power (and awesome advancements in storage), space telescopes, and hot/cold running water but reject the planet destroying plagiarism enrich the worst people bots!
Thousands of institutions abandoned programs, ended or rewrote scholarships, closed down clubs and publications, all in pre-emptive compliance.
And you know why?
Mostly because they wanted to do it if they thought they could blame someone else for it.

That's the way imo!
Thank you for the intro, I'll give her a follow :)
I do, some! Osteo remains, and basic storage/ mounting and cleaning methods for photo and paper based media. I've had to learn a bit of everything over time.
Am I alone in favouring primary sources and fact-checking references? I keep finding work by well-established scholars that propagates past inaccuracies, some of which are too easy to correct.
Seems to me that with the proliferation of AI slop fact-checking *everything* is more crucial than ever.
