Exactly this. 18 cents a gallon is not the same price shock of a war in the Middle East

I know that you know. Didn't mean to imply that you didn't
LA doesn't have public restrooms and laundry facilities but Tanzania does.
15 years ago, I visited several Serengeti villages w/ an MIT alumni group. They had donated PV solar from Germany, women walked to the villages to charge their cell phones & boombox sized batteries to run household lights off solar.
Public restrooms & laundry sinks w/ running water & septic system
I thought 1980s Portland water tasted great & guzzled it. But a Portland resident told me that it contained high levels of VOCs. Taste has nothing to do with drinking water safety. π€·π»ββοΈ

America is about to learn how tiny the federal gas tax has been all this time. 18Β’ per gallon, unchanged since 1993 and not tied to inflation. Fill your SUVβs tank and you can buy half a pack of gum on Uncle Sam.

Politically, this is incredibly stupid, but as a policy matter itβs also incredibly stupid.
The Democrats!
Sun Tzu (D-NY) - βWhen your enemy is making a mistake, fix it for him at great cost to yourself.β
What should Dems do? Nothing. Make republicans propose a gas tax holiday and then when they do insist that they pay for it by cutting spending on something unpopular (like ICE).
5/ And on the Strait of Hormuz, they had NO PLAN. I can't go into more detail about how Iran gums up the Strait, but suffice it say, right now, they don't know how to get it safely back open.
Which is unforgiveable, because this part of the disaster was 100% foreseeable.
LA's "mansion tax" was, for some ridiculous reason, written to apply to apartment buildings, and this is the predictable result.
Scratch that. 448 of those mail-in ballots got counted. Thomson is now ahead by 5 votes out of 19,072 votes cast.
For those of you who weren't alive for the 2000 election, remember kids, every vote counts
At my Berkeley student coop, the self-styled socialists were the people who never purchased their own toiletries and just helped themselves to ones in the personal cubbies. No, my shampoo and toothpaste isn't free. I paid for that.
I have a Tern HSD & also recommend their low center of gravity bikes. Etrikes are heavy.
Ask your Tern dealer if they can attach adult training wheels to a bike. Take them off as your balance/confidence improves.

ββ¦countries and cities still have the nerve to claim wider roads and highways will improve congestion (they wonβt, theyβll induce more driving/traffic) and reduce emissions/pollution (theyβll do the opposite β weβll have more cars in the same or worse congestion emitting a lot more).β

just saying: it's possible that "I'm gonna dramatically constrict my state capacity while plotting dramatic imperial expansion, and expanding my set of internal enemies while alienating most of my foreign allies" is the beginning of a world-historical masterstroke. but also possible that it isn't

I don't see Koch under the funders in the second screenshot. Do they hide behind another name?
The risk for babies who get measles under the age of 6 months to develop this within 10 years is 1 in 600.
We now have three years of post-ULA permitting data to compare to pre-ULA, and...it's not good. Average annual building permits issued in LA City have fallen by 1/3 since the measure passed. If you think this is due to macro factors, look at the rest of the county and state - doing mostly fine.

So because #Ryanair in 2024 treated a passenger to a 13-hour delay and β¬890 in costs for a new flight, and then simply ghosted her, an Austrian court today impounded one of its airplanes at Linz airport. ooe.orf.at/stories/3345...
Starting to think there might be a reason that previous administrations tried very hard to avoid war with Iran

Hand Weeding sucks. Hurts workers' backs, if you can even find workers. Why wouldn't you automate it?
