Encouraging is basically what I try to do. If applicable sharing relevant news from Europe like pictures from no-Kings protest in Amsterdam, liking/sharing pro-democracy YT channels, sometimes debunking misinformation, complimenting the courage of Minnesotans etc.
We know too well what happens if you cave. The horrors of WW-2 are still prominent in our collective memory. There are still families suffering from generational trauma.
3/ I am proud about our (Dutch) top notch water management. Not only our engineers but every aspect of keeping our feet dry and our country thriving. When I mentioned this the response was that the army engineers could do this better. These engineers showed that they were competent by asking advice
2/ I am convinced that this myth is holding the USA back. It leads to not be curious about different views and ignorance. I was told many times that american cars were the best. Maybe for the USA but not for european needs. Both can be true. This myth is not necessary to be prpud of your country.
I lived & worked in the USA for 5 years. Midwest and NYC and I noticed that many felt that way. It was kind of endearing like a teenager idolizing an athlete or artist. What I did find peculiar was that everything was black/white, no room for nuance. I think, exceptionalism is not helpful /1
