Body cam video shows takeover of Institute of Peace
USIP thing still sticks with me as a real 2025 moment
3. We've heard so much about the way DOGE operated, but rarely have we gotten to actually see it up close. This clip reveals the entitlement Trump's USIP president and the DOGE team felt heading into the privately-owned building on the day of the raid:
4. Here we see then-USIP staffer John Allen being asked repeated questions by Laken Rapier, a representative of the Trump administration. Allen tells Rapier—a person he did not work for, and who is not law enforcement—multiple times that he cannot answer her questions, but she keeps going.
MPD cop: Is it a GSA (General Services Administration) building?
DOGE lawyer: It's not.
Trump's USIP president: Private building, and that's why we need MPD. If it were GSA, it would be very simple.
Why the MPD officers went along with breaking and entering into USIP after DOGE admitted it was private property is baffling.
This whole thread is absolutely infuriating to watch, especially because Ken Jackson and Laken Rapier were doing the same to USAID at the same time. The unbelievable arrogance of these people and the absolute professionalism of USIP staff is quite the contrast.
"After the DOGE group showed up but before MPD arrived, the USIP building had been placed in lockdown."
"The people representing the Trump administration knew they were entering a privately-owned building, and the DC MPD allowed them to enter despite that fact."

1. Here's the tense moment when USIP outside counsel George Foote comes face-to-face with Kenneth Jackson, the Trump-installed new president of USIP, and the DOGE team. Jackson refuses to shake Foote's hand. “I’m asking the questions, not you,” Jackson says. DOGE staffers won't ID themselves.

When you target the Institute of Peace...
You're probably not much about Peace, just sayin.

"The cops knew they were helping the Trump administration illegally access and steal the Institute of Peace building" is a bit surprising to me but is a good illustration of what side the cops are on
Officials from the Institute of Peace felt betrayed by D.C. police when DOGE took over its building last year. See police video from the confrontation.
A crime —literally + figuratively— carried out in broad daylight
Thuggery

@nbcwashington.com report on @marisakabas.bsky.social investigation into #MPDC cooperation in Trump’s illegal seizure of The Institute of Peace.
Cmdr Jason Bagshaw must be asked to resign.

Doge stole USIP and knew it at the time it illegally seized the building. @usip.org

Thanks to Marisa’s efforts, it sure looks like there’s solid evidence that MPD went full breaking-&-entering of the USIP on behalf of DOGE & the clown that Trump installed to be the new USIP president.
This feels like it happened simultaneously 10 yrs ago, & like 3 weeks ago.

Reporting from @marisakabas.bsky.social DoGE boys knew USIP was private property and busted the locks anyway. DCMetro Police helped break in/escort the US Institute of Peace president out. “It’s a private building, and that’s why we need MPD" smh. Full footage: www.thehandbasket.co/subscribe?re...
Trump admin renamed the US Institute of Peace (USIP) to "Donald J. Trump U.S. Institute of Peace" placed his name on the building in Dec 2025. After he fired & evicted the institute's board & employees. It was part of a contested takeover of the federally funded entity youtube.com/shorts/VFXtg...

This report reflects a ton of work (FOIA’s etc) by an independent investigative journalist, interviewed in the segment.
Multiple #MPD officers’ bodycam footage shows the hostile takeover of #USIP by DOGE people, including removal of Peace Ambassadors.
Bad Look for MPD

> Footage obtained by The Handbasket’s lawsuit shows a hostile takeover on March 17, 2025. [1/3]
Body cam footage shows Kenneth Jackson, the Trump-installed new USIP President; Laken Rapier, Jackson’s Chief-of-Staff; DOGE workers Nate Cavanaugh and Justin Fox; and DOGE lawyer Justin Aimonetti were present at the raid. MPD let them in through a side door, despite USIP staff's objections.
After the DOGE group showed up but before MPD arrived, the USIP building had been placed in lockdown mode, meaning all interior doors were locked and elevators were no longer operable. So once in the building, MPD needed to manually break down interior doors to give Trump's team full access.
MPD used an extensive locksmith set to break open doors in the USIP building—included knives. At one point in the footage, there were two knives on one lock simultaneously, creating what appeared to be a dangerous situation. Fortunately no one was hurt.
The most tense moment is when DOGE, USIP and MPD all converge in one of the hallways. USIP outside counsel George Foote tries to better understand how the DOGE got into the building in the first place, but he's shut down. “I’m asking the questions, not you,” Trump's new USIP president said.
The litigation over who has lawful control of the USIP building plays on, with the Trump administration maintaining control for now. But I'm proud @rcfp.org and I were able to obtain this footage and shed important light on DOGE's intentions when they entered the USIP building nearly one year ago.
