which these protections allow for. bottom line, evictions of any kind make people vulnerable to homelessness and housing insecurity. we (pro density advocates) have been accurately arguing that increased density (thru ADUs) benefits tenants. not proactively defending them would be a slap in the face
against this goal! condoization for affordable homeownership is also great, but i donβt think we should be throwing the tenants who are benefiting from this housing production under the bus when we get the chance. the goal of this policy should be to encourage the devβt of new ADUs for homeownership
the fundamental issue here is around how we treat tenants in ADUs.
the goal so far in building ADUβs (which i wholeheartedly support) has been to provide a variety of more affordable rental options, especially for families. i think allowing (or encouraging) those tenants to be evicted goes directlyβ¦
oh jk i just saw you said this at the beginning
thanks for this. happy to talk about this some more, but jsyk we wonβt be voting on this item tonight. it was pushed back due to a packed agenda.
Thanks to the Berkeley Student Cooperative for hosting @cecilialunaparra.bsky.social and me last night for a βMeet Your Councilmembersβ event at Cloyne Court.

it is our responsibility to build a city that keeps all of our street users safe. iβm so, so sorry we failed you. let this be a reminder of the urgency and importance of safe street infrastructure.
please join me in keeping these two victims of traffic violence in our thoughts.
it is so heartbreaking to repeatedly see our residents and visitors, especially the most vulnerable, be subject to such violence on our streets.
This photo of Bancroft Way shows how street space is now used:
1/4 for buses
1/4 for cars
1/4 for loading and parking
1/4 for bikes
Previous it was 1/2 cars, 1/2 parking, even though most people using the street used the bus, bike, or walking.

Thank you, Berkeley City Councilmembers Tregub, @brentblackaby.bsky.social, and @cecilialunaparra.bsky.social, and state Sen. @jessearreguin.bsky.social's staff, for visiting our strike vote this week to learn how elected officials can support the healthcare, research, and education we provide
apologies π
Epicenter currently put at this interesting little traffic island, where Piedmont meets Dwight from the NW, with now-blocked-off slip lane.
What did Alpha Sigma Pi do?
Berkeley just experienced a small earthquake.
Check USGS for the official earthquake magnitude: earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/...
Remember to drop, cover, and hold on during earthquake shaking.
On one hand, reducing car use reduces urban pollution.
But on the other, everyone likes it and cities become more livable
right???

Evanston Deactivates Flock Cameras and Terminates Contract On August 26, the City of Evanston and the Evanston Police Department deactivated all 19 Flock Safety ALPR cameras. The City is no longer collecting or providing license plate reader data to the Flock network. The findings of the Illinois Secretary of Stateβs audit, combined with Flockβs admission that it failed to establish distinct permissions and protocols to ensure local compliance while running a pilot program with federal users, are deeply troubling. As a result, the City has deactivated the cameras and issued a termination notice to Flock, effective September 26, 2025. During this interim period until September 26, data collected by other agencies and shared on the Flock network will remain available for Evanstonβs investigations into reported crimes. However, Evanston will not collect or share any data itself.
EVANSTON DEFLOCKS: City just issued a news release announcing that all 19 license plate cameras have been deactivated, and the contract will be fully terminated effective Sept. 26. Story TK.
i think the word βspecialβ is pretty subjective, but thatβs not the point. you called a student and COB resident of 5+ years a βtouristβ, which is a really dangerous insinuation.
this Commissioner is a UC Berkeley masters student and expert Californian architectural historian who has felt firsthand the effect of the housing crisis & is a resident of the City of Berkeley. students are not βtourists,β and you can criticize the Ordinance + Commission without claiming so.
I wish a very happy βfuck youβ to everyone who thought throwing trans people under the bus was going to stop these lunatics
Their goal has *always* been the eradication of the entire LGBTQ+ community, and theyβre not gonna stop at Obergefell either
This is why we fight for *everyone*
