I feel like something lit up in my brain when i really put together how the harassment of transfems on the internet is just manufacturing consent for harassing them to suicide. Like i'll have to reread hot allostatic load but i feel like that's what that essay was about but didn't state directly
that's why the high-intensity accusations work, that's why so many transfems i know of have randomly been accused of rape or other horrible stuff. It doesn't matter that the assertion is true and proving harm isn't the point. It's all manufacturing consent for harassment, all the way down.
the intensity of the accusations is about forcing highly emotional engagement, it's meant to override your critical thinking to get you to see nuanced discussion of a subject as aesthetic association with direct harm, and to view a violent response as necessary catharsis.
