Soft lighting from a window creates a natural look but can be hard to control, hard lights from a flash or a lamp can be controlled, but they can be harsh and create strong shadows. Think about the effect you wanna communicate and find space and light that supports that vision.
Sometimes creating gaps or distance can be visually interesting. Check out the rule of 3rds or the golden ratio.
2) lighting is key. You always need more light that you think and from multiple directions. Know the difference btwn hard and soft lighting and use it to your advantage.
Two of the easiest things that will make your photos better:
1) Think about the frame, what do you want to highlight, what’s most important? Help it shine by removing clutter or colors that could distract, position it in a way the eye has a path to follow. Lead your viewer and play with the space.
