At the top of the hour, a Sunday News Brief, with the latest on events in the #MiddleEast. Listen at YouTube.com/JadenReports.
The preeminent confirmation that Iran's supreme leader is deceased.β΄
A "senior Israeli official" tells Reuters that the body of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has been found and he is deceased. This has not been corroborated by any Iranian officials, however.
In a video released shortly before 3 a.m. ET, President Trump said that "the lives of courageous American heroes may be lost, and we may have casualties β that often happens in war."
Congress has not passed a resolution declaring war.
I'm continuing to follow the latest developments out of the Middle East, amid U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.
The United Nations Security Council will be meeting today at 4 p.m. ET to discuss the situation.
A refrain throughout Spanberger's speech: "Is the president working for you?"
Intentionally or unintentionally, it evokes Reagan's "Are you better off today than you were four years ago?" line from the 1980 debate between him and President Carter.
Spanberger: "Over the last year, through DOGE, mass firings, and the appointment of deeply unserious people to our nation's most serious positions, our president has endangered the long and storied history of the United States being a force for good."
"The damage to us, the American people, has already been done," says Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger, delivering the Democratic response, on the Supreme Court decision to strike down Trump's IEEPA tariffs.
The president "demands the immediate restoration" of funding to the Department of Homeland Security, which remains shutdown, as discussions continue over reforms to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The president claims he's lowered prescription drug prices by "300, 400, 500, 600%."
Math disputes that, as nothing can be reduced by more than 100%. After that point, Americans would be getting paid for prescription drugs β not the other way around.
Trump makes reference to, in his view, a "very unfortunate ruling" by the Supreme Court on his use of IEEPA for global tariffs. (He said this with four Supreme Court justices sitting directly in front of him, including Chief Justice Roberts, who authored the court's opinion.)
President Trump claimed that the Biden administration "gave us the worst inflation in the history of our country."
That is false. Post-pandemic inflation peaked at 9.1% The highest inflation rate seen in U.S. history was over 20%, following World War I.

President Trump used IEPPA, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, to enact a number of tariffs on U.S. trading partners.
But today, in a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that Trump could no longer use IEPPA in that manner. www.dw.com/en/trump-tar...
