I've never tried to scan anything using my phone (why would I? I have a scanner!); maybe you know better than I about smartphones' capabilities vis-a-vis scanning. Call me ignorant, then, but it would seem to ME that scanning newspapers on a document scanner would still be preferable to a phone.
