How timely! About to get on a zoom about teaching intro to Econ with AI w/ @justinwolfers.bsky.social I plan to run an RCT with an AI tutor turned on/off in Intro. If you teach multiple sections of intro and are interested in joining drop me a line (I might have stipends too)
Another thoughtful column by @deandad.bsky.social .
When he observes "...that many policymakers see community colleges as workforce training centers and nothing else," we should note that many officials see all of higher ed this way.

The (Wild)cat is out of the bag! The Institute for Public Good at Davidson College won a $4M FIPSE grant - the largest competitive federal grant in the Collegeβs history - to create a nationwide network of civil discourse programs at 100 colleges and universities. www.davidson.edu/news/2026/01...

Another amazing study by Chetty group. Importance of neighborhoods
Quite a work wish he had separated the 2 year college from no college group. Still I except the idea that cc students and faculty are more likely to be liberals than the general population and less likely than 4 year.
Looks like schooling really does causally shift voters to the left. Neat looking work by @danielfiroozi.bsky.social

Not good
Sounds like a good talk. I like your ideas.
Pizzelle made and ready to eat
A salute to you.
Another good one from the Chetty group
When they borrow money to invest it looks like a bubble to me.
Interesting paper.
Suppose you have a kid about to graduate college. She would make a fantastic English professor if the field were still hiring, but it isn't, and likely won't be. What would you advise her to do? www.insidehighered.com/opinion/colu...

A good review of a new important book on the CC
Added mine
A white paper with the middle torn out revealing a yellow background and the words "confessions of a community college dean" in black.
Opinion | When Majors Matter
Iβd much rather see a student who loves literature study that than force herself to slog through an HVAC program, hating every moment of it. https://bit.ly/4lSS5RT

I canβt tell from this if it applies to CCs or not
Glad you are back. I learn from you.
Since NYT spends 99% of the time talking about elite colleges, its worth highlighting when they put out a great piece on community colleges.
CCs are already under resourced, and the trump cuts to higher ed will limit opportunities for social mobility thru these institutions
My granddaughter is in UK for her BA . Big difference is all courses in major. Left out are most of what we would call gen education credits. Do we want this? Seems to be mostly a problem with science majors and preprof. Seems like 3 year degree easier in humanities?
A growing number of colleges now offer 90-credit bachelor's degrees instead of the traditional 120 credits after accreditors started giving the green light. It's unclear how employers and grad schools will view these degrees, or if labor market outcomes differ. Keep an eye on this.
