When the budget fight over $40M for cop city comes up. Every single CM should be against it for the same reason they were against anything more than $1M in rental assistance. And bring up this pause evictions veto every single day.

Frey always finds money for cops. While our neighbors are evicted.

I wonder how all those β€œpragmatic progressives” who voted for him feel about this today.

The Big Strong Mayor throwing the most vulnerable people in our city to the wolves. Shame on him. Blood on his hands.

Dear Mayor Frey,
As elected officials who represent Minneapolis, we ask you to sign Pause Evictions Save Lives (legislative file 2026-00099). Temporarily extending the pre-eviction notice from 30 to 60 days gives our residents extra time that is desperately needed to help find resources to prevent eviction.
We've all been amazed by our shared constituents' resiliency and resolve in the face of ICE's illegal occupation of our City. Our residents banded together to protect one another, even raising millions of dollars in mutual aid funds to help keep their neighbors in their homes. It's our duty as elected officials to match the commitment in our residents to try and keep as many of our neighbors in their homes as possible.
We look to Minneapolis to lead the way and are working on similar bills to extend pre-eviction notices statewide to help our neighbors. Signing the Pause Evictions Save Lives measure will bolster our efforts and reinforce our message to our colleagues about the way in which pre-eviction notices help prevent families from being evicted.
We've been so proud of the work of the City of Minneapolis to respond to this unprecedented federal invasion. Your work to increase funding for immigration legal services, rental assistance, and creating a small business resiliency fund has shown how elected officials can meet the moment. Signing Pause Eviction Save Lives is the next step in helping our residents recover and ensure none of them are left behind.
Sincerely,
DoaChh

elected officials in the minnesota state senate and house representing minneapolis have sent a letter to mayor jacob frey urging him not to veto the pause evictions, save lives bill which would extend the notice period from 30 days to 60 to address the financial impact of the ICE occupation

I know it feels like the day-to-day intensity of the ICE occupation in Minnesota has calmed down, but there are so many lagging problems that need solving, right as people’s attention goes elsewhere. Financial assistance, like help with rent, and legal help for the detained. These horrors persist.

Council Member Jason Chavez (@jchavezmpls.bsky.social) has watched Christin organize, coordinate mutual aid, and stand up for our most vulnerable students.

When ICE's presence threatened our school communities, Christin organized to keep students safe.

β€œyou may hear that extending eviction notice to 60 days will make the city vulnerable to lawsuits. as someone who’s represented tenants, i can tell you landlords will sue over anything,” says suitor

landlords lost lawsuit over city’s section 8, lost during covid eviction moratorium too

The elected officials who rep a majority of the city have to beg Jacob Frey to not veto an extension in eviction notices. @Jacob_Frey who rode the wave of our collective suffering on his national PR tour, the most vulnerable in our city have to beg Jacob Frey to not impede help.

So wild that we have to have subject matter experts outside begging the mayor to not veto a policy that would help people.

Because we all know the interests of landlords and big developers are what guide him. Over data science and academic experts in the field.

They just motioned to suspend the rules to vote for chair by badges. Which is EXACTLY what they complained about the Minneapolis DFL convention just last year. Lol. I mean.

Sitting here at SD59 Convention that is being run by a group of moderate/establishment types who, if I remember correctly, challenged the endorsement of Omar Fateh over faulty voting procedure.

Well we are doing nothing but voting by show of ballots or voice vote. Just something I thought about.

Vote for amending the constitution report to strike item 7 fails. We are now counting votes to adopt the report as a whole. People are very squirrelly.

We are voting but I worry that this amendment to an amendment. But I am. Worried that people did not at all understand what they were voting for because of vague and unclear representations by the Convention chair and author of the constitution report.

[Amendment 7 (b)] Section 4. Special Elections. No endorsement may be made for a special election or appointment to fill a vacancy to an elected public office. In the case of a special election, all candidates who file for the ballot as a DFL candidate shall be considered as having a letter of support for the purpose of state party services. If a formal letter of support document is requested by a DFL candidate. the Chair or their designee shall issue the letter of support within three days of the request.

Now we are debating an Amendment to strike an Amendment from the constitution report.

This would take endorsement power away from convention bodies in special elections and provide for letter of support to any candidate who wants it. Based on the discretion of the SD59 central committee.
