Greninja is what got me into fanfics and Pokémon lore. The episode where Ash caught Snivy was the second Pokémon episode I ever watched, and she is the reason I started watching more lol

I think Anipoke can have this rule where gym leaders can switch their Pokémon if the challenger is any trainer who has previously maded in the top 20 or 30 in a regional league before.

It also parrales Mewtwo and Giovanni, Given Zeroara is a primal feline who is a mix attacker like Mewtwo, but one is a genetic artificial Pokémon focused more on special attack, the other is a physical attacker and a primal Pokémon.
And Ash already has parallels with Giovanni
Maybe it's my biasness, since Zeroara is my second favorite Pokémon of all time, but I do think it's like top ten alternative Ash starter Pokémon worthy Pokémon.
I think these two would have solid contrast and chemistry.

Those negs about me "Trying to make Ash look badass" always hit weird when Ash's very first episode had him standing up to a flock of murderous Spearow, in the middle of a thunderstorm, ready to face his death for a Pokémon he just met.
Ash has literally never not been awesome to me.
Fun fact—Prior to JN, whenever Ash fought a Hariyama, one of his mons always lost to it. Now that privilege is only held by Steelix if I am correct
