Proportional ranked choice voting (aka single transferable vote) combined with larger districts would end gerrymandering and actually result in fair representation. Ireland has been doing it for a century and some cities in the US use it as well.

It does count for your candidate. It gives your ballot and your choices more power because you have back up choices.
