Survey: 88% of Minnesota communities report feeling climate change impacts A new survey from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) shows that 88% of Minnesota communities have reported feeling the impacts of climate change.

And only 19% of Minnesotan municipalities have plans to address climate adaptation needed with lost snow and winter economies, increased flooding, droughts, and air quality.

The planet is overheating. Why is the news looking away? Since 2021, global media coverage of climate change has dropped 38 percent. Blame wars, political chaos, and Jeffrey Epstein.

Oversaturated and retracting media presence for climate change doesn’t surprise me.

If you can, now is a good time as ever to communicate about the climate change we experience and the policies we need. We keep having β€œnever before conditions”.

Enjoying catching up with my @carleton.edu colleague and the Carnegie Sustainability Elective crew supporting colleges in advancing their sustainability work, whether they are all in like we are, or just developing where they will go together. I am grateful this national support structure exists!

Robert F Kennedy Jr: 1 year of failure In his first speech as Secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Robert F Kennedy Jr laid out a plan to restore trust. The COVID-19 pandemic saw public faith in Federal health...

It's not getting much press coverage, but last month the Department of Education quietly stopped fighting a lawsuit challenging the infamous DEI "Dear Colleague" letter. This effectively means the letter is unenforceable. This is a huge win that deserves celebrating, and we can thank unions!

A climate literacy seal bill in Minnesota | National Center for Science Education

Minnesota's Senate Bill 3659 would, if enacted, establish a climate literacy seal "to recognize graduating high school students ... who demonstrate mastery in climate literacy disciplines and attain green skills or technical green skills."

NSF has put out a β€œDear Colleague Letter” asking how to dismantle NCAR, the premier public atmospheric sciences center in the US. We must reject the premise. As a dedicated center bringing together scientists across disciplines and across the world, NCAR science has saved lives for over 65 years.

How Rare is Rare? Understanding Apostle Islands Ice Caves Access (U.S. National Park Service)

Check out the Lake Superior Ice cover trends. In the 1970-1995 only 4 years had maximum ice extents of less than 60%, but that became commonplace in subsequent decades. The window for caves which call for 90% even fewer.

Last years Earth Day theme in Northfield focused on flooding & engaging for a thriving riverfront development & dam removal. As that project starts to shape, this year’s Earth Day will focus on advocacy for grid updates & what we still can do now.
