Found one at a price I liked, and with that, I now have officially completed my 1956 Topps set build! Frankly, I can’t believe this is a reality, and will be sharing some more thoughts in the future. For now though, thanks so much to everyone who helped make this dream come true!
#MailDay: Added this one today to complete (I think) my subset of 1975-76 Topps cards including the ABA’s Spirits of St. Louis. Bob Costas would no doubt approve!

Picked up an item for my Webster Groves High School alumni collection: an autographed index card from Bud Byerly (class of 1939). 🎩🧡🖤⚾️
Lots of teams did the powder blue back in the day. Nostalgically, I like them all, but in my opinion, none of them looked quite so good as the Cardinals with the bright red hats and uniform accents.
Though the Expos were pretty awesome too.

I love the jumbo cards!!! Built a few sets, and got a jumbo 85 Topps signed by Ryne Sandberg a few years back.

-A 1947 Dell MLB season preview with Stan the Man on the front and Flint native Sophie Kurys of the AAGPBL on the back.

Saw that Roy Face died yesterday at the age of 97. “The Baron of the Bullpen,” Face was one of the first great relievers who (along with Hoyt Wilhelm) pioneered the role of bullpen closers in the 1950s & 60s.
Thankful to have had him sign this card a few years back. RIP.
OTD in 1919, the great Jackie Robinson was born.
When my son took AP US History, the class had a debate tournament to determine who was the “greatest American ever.” Jack argued for Robinson…and won the whole thing. Today he’s in his final semester of law school at Northwestern!

They say you haven’t really started building a set from the 1950s until you have the Mantle. Well, I guess I’ve finally started building 1956 Topps. Knew it would have to be in abysmal condition to be in my price range. It absolutely is (multiple tears and taped).
But I love it!!

Five years ago today, Hank Aaron died. On that day, I posted this picture, representing Hall of Fame players who had died in the previous ten months. That was a really rough stretch.

Picked up a HUGE one today for my 1956 Topps set build! Knew it would need to be in rough condition for me to be able to afford it, and this one worked out great! Now just two cards to go: the first checklist, and (unfortunately) The Mick.

I hear you. The creases on this one are significant, but I'm THRILLED with it. Far better condition than I thought I would end up getting. For Mantle, I'm afraid it's going to have to be one that went through bike spokes, jeans pockets and the washing machine! If not worse.
