I want to make sure disabled people don’t feel ashamed of who they are. Rachel Charlton-Dailey lives in Sunderland and has been disabled all her life. Her work centres disabled voices and challenges systemic injustice. She told us: ‘This year my focus is exposing how the government turns the public against us.’

A descendant of colonised people in Nigeria and Ireland, Hope draws inspiration from historic and ongoing anti-colonial resistance movements.

No one should be detained or convicted for exercising a right, such as peacefully expressing an opinion. Haydée Dijkstal is a human rights and international law barrister known for her advocacy in complex cases involving arbitrary detention, atrocity crimes, fair trial rights and enforced disappearance. She told us: ‘In a world gravitating towards “might is right”, the law provides the tools to protect these core rights.’

My belief is people can make a difference - communities are stronger together. Tracey Herrington works at Thrive Teesside, supporting people experiencing poverty in Hartlepool. She brings their lived experiences to those in power, insisting that people who endure injustice understand it best. She told us: ‘Accepting that my experience and knowledge were valuable was life-changing.’

Dania Abul Haj is a leading Palestinian lawyer working on business and human rights, torture, administrative detention and campaigns against the defamation of NGOs. Violence against women and girls is a human rights crisis.
But far-right actors are weaponising it to spread racism, Islamophobia and division.
This is failing survivors while inflaming hate.

All states, including the UK, must refrain from any conduct that could fuel further violations. States have a clear obligation not to aid or assist internationally wrongful acts and a duty to bring such breaches to an end.

Iranian authorities have denied Narges Mohammadi access to adequate and timely health care despite her poor health and torture related injuries.
The Iranian authorities must immediately and unconditionally release Narges Mohammadi.
Since her arbitrary arrest on 12th December 2025, Iran's authorities have denied her access to family and lawyers, including in court, and have held her incommunicado in harsh conditions in a Mashhad detention facility.

Amnesty International urges the Home Secretary to reconsider appealing the judgement, respect the court’s decision and accept the proscription was wrong.
The Met Police have said they will focus on ‘gathering evidence’ rather than making arrests. But this means peaceful protesters could still be arrested later - rather than at the protests - and get up to six months in prison for holding a sign.
The High Court has ruled the proscription of Palestine Action was unlawful. But the proscription is still in place.
We went to Gorton & Denton in Manchester - where tomorrow there is a by-election - to hear what people want from their new MP.
The message was loud and clear: fix the housing crisis and bring communities together.
Today marks four years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Ukrainian civilians continue to endure daily indiscriminate attacks and this year was the deadliest in terms of civilian casualties since 2022.
UN: Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killings & destruction in El-Fasher bear ‘hallmarks of genocide’
"They asked us, ‘Are you soldiers, or are you civilians?’, and we told them we are civilians. They said, ‘In El Fasher, there are no civilians, everybody is a soldier’." Ahmed, 21. Ahmed was one of 28 survivors who have detailed to Amnesty International how fighters with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) executed scores of unarmed men and raped dozens of women and girls as the RSF captured the city in November 2025. He was separated from his children, his wife was killed by shrapnel and his brother was executed by RSF soldiers.
The survivors Amnesty International interviewed told of the unimaginable horrors they faced as they escaped the city. The world must not look away.
Amnesty is calling for the existing arms embargo in Darfur to expand to the entire country of Sudan. Arms embargo now!
The UN Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan has stated that the killings in El-Fasher bear the "hallmarks of genocide”.
This underscores the gravity of what civilians have endured and reinforces the urgent need for justice in Sudan.
The BBC’s decision to cut this section of Akinola Davies Jr’s speech when the Baftas was broadcast later in the day is shameful.
Amnesty remains committed to supporting and protecting Iranian human rights defenders so they can continue their vital work documenting abuses and advocating for human rights and justice for the people of Iran who are risking everything for freedom.
The greatest beneficiaries of such division are those who seek to silence scrutiny, erode solidarity, and maintain impunity.
Everyone has the right to participate in public life and to speak out in defence of human rights without fear of violence, intimidation, or abuse.
Environments of hatred, fear, and division do not arise in a vacuum. They're often exploited - and at times deliberately fuelled - by those who seek to weaken civic space and undermine those working to advance human rights and freedom.
