ICE agents scatter as SD Bishop Pham, other clergy visit immigration court "Our presence made a difference," one priest said, quoting an immigration lawyer saying their client was given more time to prepare for another hearing.

Michael Pham fled Vietnam at the age of 13. He was named bishop of San Diego a month ago.

Today, he stood watch at a courthouse: ICE agents were “standing there covered with masks as we walked toward the courtroom. Eventually the agents scattered and went away”

You can be the hyena who giggles, laughs and then devours the rest of the body, or you could be a human who fights off the leopard, protects the victim and provides first aid to those who’ve been harmed. I guess my question is what do my fellow Democrats want to be? The hyena or the human?

There are a couple of ways to react to someone whose face has been eaten by a leopard.

If your pastor is trying to preach bravely right now, support her or him.

Up your pledge (to make up anyone threatening to withdraw support) if you have the means.

Tell them that you have their back.

Speak up in defense of bravery and truth.

Pray for the pastor-and your fellow parishioners.

It partly reads: “Persecuted people who have patiently waited for their chance at protection are poised to languish in legal limbo. Family reunifications are likely to be delayed for the foreseeable future, if not derailed entirely.”

Maybe we can’t control most of what will happen this year, but we can bear the light and let the truth shine forth to do its good work.

I don’t know what the new year will bring, where it may lead or what might happen. It can scare me if I think about it too much. I do know, however, that God is still speaking, the light is still shining, and the darkness still can’t do anything about it.

"By focusing on the SBC while virtually ignoring other groups, Baptists appear in news reports as more theologically conservative, more Republican and Trumpian, more White, more Southern, more supportive of Christian Nationalism, and more male-led than Baptists actually are overall."
