A brown handmade mug, glazed in a matte brown and grey glaze.

A past mug made with Bennett's Terracotta, a South Australian Clay dug straight from the ground. I love it because it smells of the earth.
This one is glazed with my ash glaze which is one part terracotta, 1 part wood ash and 1 part Neph Sy.

Done! The sgraffito piece I posted a while back has come through the glaze fire.
Im delighted. I was very much in the zone when I carved this and I love the direction it's taking me.

So interesting! Completely different to Australian Magpies.

Beautiful! Am I correct in thinking you are UK based? I love how both UK and Australia (where I am) both have a bird species called magpie yet they look completely different!

An example of the sgraffito on the workbench at the moment. The underglaze will be red after firing. A departure from my usual black and white.

Folks, tomorrow I'm dipping my toes into Majolica...inspired by @carterpottery.bsky.social excellent book on Low Fire Glazes. Any and all advice most welcome. I'll be sure to post results/success' /failures in due time.
