my daughter is almost 3 (he is 5) she loves frozen (does he like frozen?) she likes our cats (does he have pets?) she loves her grandparents (will he see his again?) is he scared? (she would be so scared) does he miss his mom? (she cries at daycare drop-off sometimes) he's wearing a bunny hat (she sleeps with a stuffed pig) he is 5 (what are we doing) she is almost 3 (what the fuck are we doing)

This kind of thing happens all the time. There's a huge imbalance of what students can talk about and write about vs what teachers can do in response. Personally I think if they are allowed to bring their religious and personal beliefs into the classroom, we should be too.
I was teaching a writing class with some coteachers, and a student posted some anti-trans arguments in our group discussion space. Rather than moderate the space, we shut down the entire group discussion board for multiple classes. Because we can't be seen as "political" as teachers.
But if they don't let the Republicans walk all over them, how will they hold us hostage for our votes in the midterms?

AI student writing is such a pain to deal with. Half my class writes in the same AI voice, then denies it when I call them out on it. I don't do this job to be the AI police, and I know it's a symptom of the degradation of education in general rather than the cause, but it's still so frustrating.
