close up of yellow flowers on a weeping willow tree. the yellow twig-like branches hang from a top point making a curtain around the trunk. The blossom is 5cms long - a central stalk with tiny yellow dots of pollen all the way along. small green leaves are starting to appear.
more willow blossom
and more - a close up of three buds.
Weeping Willow close up this morning.

a rusty crane on the edge of a cliff. this is Portland Bill in Dorset. On a bright but cold / windy day.
Haven't shared this one for a while, recorded in April 2022.
At the edge of a craggy rock promontory, near the giant lighthouse, there's strong sea wind, and an old rusted crane.

They are the best!
rooftops in Looe at night. Lots of tiny cottages squashed in and up the hillside in this special place
*Sleep safe* from Cornwall. ๐ง
Episode 253 - Quiet night sky at Looe (61 mins)
Empty air. No planes. No cars. Just gusts of winds and a hint of sea breezes reflecting their sounds on the slates of the cottage roof.

Is there a hi-vis toad patrol where you live? ๐ธ
Sounds amazing! A rare thing. Where was it and are you buying it?
a fallen tree. trunk covered in moss and lichen. on a grey spring day. in a wood.
"After our ears had adjusted, we realised much of the human noise in the landscape was gone."
Episode 59 - A fallen tree on Galley Hill (31mins)
An oasis for listening. Big gusts of wind in tall trees. Birds chatter lower down. The pitter patter of light rain.

goat willow - bright yellow pollen on tiny stalks burst from their velvet casing. on a twig.
Monday morning.
Wishing you a good week ahead.

Which did you choose?
full view of the tree with a more green than white haze on it now.
twig with flowers without their petals. green leaves instead
twig with green leaves and a few white flowers left
All that heavy rain means lots of the petals have fallen now, leaving the tree with its green coat on.
That suit is amazing!
slightly blurry photo on the left from 2021 showing two trees - one straight and one with a bend in the middle. the photo on the right shows the same two trees now in 2026 with generally more lichen. the left hand tree has a bald patch in the middle in 2026, maybe the lichen was collected or rubbed against?
A comparison of the same two trees from almost the same angle shows how much has changed between April 2021 and February 2026.
twig covered in beard lichen
Here's an extra one, just for you!
close up of a tree trunk with different types of green / grey lichen
few spots of yellow lichen amongst the green / grey types
mix of lichens on one twig including some pixie cups
beard lichen, very long on a twig which is almost impossible to see through the lichen
Many photos!
Unfortunately the road was too audible for us to be able to record there though the birds were singing their spring song and it was a lovely place to be.
the same path, the trees are even more covered in green / grey lichen
We went back last month and it is just as wonderful, the lichen possibly even more dense now.
a stony path running alongside small trees at different angles. with long grey beard lichen growing everywhere. really unusual to see so much.
Peaceful wideness.
Pastoral mildness.
Inside a little outcrop of blackthorn trees.
Every branch covered in the healthiest grey lichen we'd ever seen.
Episode 76 - Last fields before the sea (35 mins) > bit.ly/LenLiCn
Recorded in April 2021.
