It's both disingenuous to celebrate Proton (who are a business making money in a friendly nation) as bulletproof, and to compare them to Google, who make money by mining your email content. Understand your threat model and message accordingly. www.404media.co/proton-mail-h...
I think a skillset the maga movement has always had is the ability to co-opt (and hollow out) the language of the left. It makes sense to me that those who are now โdeconstructingโ are borrowing a framework the token liberal of their community has talked about in whatever discourse they may have.
This gives me hope. I throw my application at CS whenever I see a role I know Iโd be good for and lost count how many times Iโve been rejected ๐
I'm not sure if a long weekend in snowy NYC, bouncing between some favorite restaurants and seeing as many shows as we can schedule helps at all with depression.
I'm willing to give it a shot, for science. Will report back sometime next week!

1. ICE is using Palantir apps to collect biometric data on protestors. I'm working closely with @markey.senate.gov to stop this.
Job hunt continues. A recruiter pinged me and let me know about a possible position heโs trying to get me an interview for. I got the preliminary โpartial lapse of fundingโ emails in case we shut down at the end of this week. So my anxiety is high and hoping I land something soon!
Posting as a proof of life l! Lots of ups and downs ๐
Our power was restored Tuesday night and am thankful for it. Still 100k people without power in Nashville and getting around town is dicey. Itโs obvious NES had done zero contingency planning ahead of this winter ๐ก

Dear 2025, fuck you.
Do better, 2026.
The only real way I have marked the passage of time this week is getting closer to the Stranger Things finale and college football games to cosplay for.
We didnโt have any family stuff until later in the evening and so we took a spur of the moment day trip to Metropolis, IL, the official hometown of Superman.
Itโs definitely a drive through town, but I highly recommend stopping by if youโre up for some superhero whimsy.
Merry Christmas, yโall!
If you happen to be looking for bad redactions in a large set of data files today for some reason, there's an open source tool for that.
Journalists are increasingly relying on insider sources, and protecting those sources is more important than ever.
Here's how SecureDrop is rising to the challenge, safeguarding whistleblowersโ anonymity against ever-evolving threats.
Afraid of retaliation and in an increasingly volatile job market, afraid to leave too. Itโs quite a bind.
With the 60 minutes leak, the many recent Epstein releases, etc., I think we are seeing the future of government accountability under authoritarianism:
Leaks, hacks, data dumps, releases of big document caches.
Journalists and the public will have to learn how to digest this stuff. ๐งต
It absolutely does.
This was for a senior security engineer position and after that I declared my entire job search completely baked.
I was recently asked โtell me about a CVE thatโs given you trouble this yearโ. My response was how a couple of low severity CVEs had been exploited together to try to gain access to a cloud service and how our security controls prevented the breach.
His response: โI only asked you about one CVEโ ๐ซ
The top strand of lights on our fake Christmas tree stopped lighting up and I feel like witnessing our tree slowly go out like this is appropriate for 2025.
Finally caught up on Critical Role. So good, but so long ๐ฎโ๐จ
Companies aren't firing workers in staggering numbers because AI can do that work instead. They're firing workers because they lost their bet on AI against the House.

Really difficult to top a good Islay ๐คค
The sunday scaries has nothing on the last evening of a month and a half long furlough and a message from your boss saying "be ready to go all in on AI".
