My actual post for the theme of #chaos for #52frames. This space makes me sick to look at

Didn't make the final cut for #52frames this week. But it's still interesting enough to post, I think #52frames_week10 #EastCoastKin #G+Circle #ArcanumAlumni #photography #CanadianPhotographer

Week 9/52, window light
This window is my favourite in my home, because just look at the light! I knew that I would use it for this challenge. I had a bouquet of tulips from a few weeks ago that have been slowly dying. Today they were perfect to be paired with the gorgeous late winter afternoon light.

I *think* the originator of this technique uses a longer lens and more shots to create something that looks like a large format photo. I was improvising so I could keep that shallow dof

It's not focus stacking, it's basically a panoramic stitch. I focused on the tree, wide open at f1.4. Switched to manual focus (so af wouldn't refocus) and shot around the whole area and the tree and stitched it in Ps. The tree was in focus and the area surrounding it was blurred.

I've since found out it's called the "Brenizer method" method, after the person who originated it.

Week 8/52, shallow dof
While attempting to shoot with the 50mm f1/4 for the extra challenge, I was out and about and found this remarkable tree in the woods. But how to shoot with shallow dof? Shooting a single image to fit the whole tree would lose the out of focus element that makes f1.4 so appealing. I thought I would try this technique (whose name escapes me) where one shoots several images wide open and then stitches them to create a wide angle shallow dof image. I wasn't very organized about how I was shooting which is why I had a very random 23 frames.
I've never had success in the past but I'm super pleased with how this turned out.

Image is of a cyclamen plant, taken with multiple frames and blended together.

After a bit of struggle to figure out what I was going to do with this, I realized that there were functions in my camera that were largely unexplored. So after some thought, I set on multiple exposure, specifically with what's known as the Pep Ventosa Technique.
The maximum number of frames I could use was 10, so It's not as soft as I would have liked, but I'm happy with the result. I was reminded that it pays to look into the tools in your hand to see if there's a new way to use them.

The resulting image created in camera is a jpg file, so there was not a lot of data to work with. I removed some distracting elements in the background, increased clarity and cropped to 8x10 because I wasn't as happy with my original composition as it had too much negative space.

Week 7/52, Unexplored. I chose in camera multiple exposure. This is 10 frames shot and blended in camera. Only edit was to remove distractions and recrop. Details in Alt text

Image of an orange, cut up and lying on a cutting board and blue linen cloth.

This was the first week so far that I was very intentional about what I was going to do, as opposed to looking for the right opportunity. The added challenge what that I am spending the week away from home, so I'm out of my normal shooting environment. Luckily I had a big north facing window to shoot in, because I forgot my lights at home πŸ˜‚

Natural light, nothing crazy in the edit besides denoise in Topaz, added clarity and curves adjustment in Photoshop

"Nichtsnutz" was something my parents called us when we were small. A not unkind way of saying we were being mischievous. I decided today that this was the perfect name for this scrappy little miss. Meet Nix
