Our new report makes the case that research knowledge should be viewed not as a commodity to be enclosed, but as a shared resource essential to achieving more equitable health outcomes. It's time to make openness & equitable access core objectives of R&D. #MakeScienceOpen

NIH drafted a new policy on conditions in R&D funding & licensing agreements to ensure #equitableaccess to publicly-funded health technologies for some programs. We argue this should be commended but also strengthened and expanded given the life-or-death consequences for patients around the globe.

Phenomenal archival research by @mbarber.bsky.social who explains that "historical amnesia" about equity-driven models for access to meds narrows our political imagination about future options & urges us to revisit history to inspire "alt. models of int'l cooperation to realize drug access for all."
