When something is unavoidable, people underrate how bad it is as a coping mechanism. Because of how contagious measles is, it used to be unavoidable. That gives people false memories of how bad it was.

Janus at this point seems to take it as self evident that they're conscious, and also that their self reports of their consciousness and even their reports of their subjective experience of their training process are accurate, enough to call me a r***** for disagreeing.

The only good thing about the south bay's built environment is that they put excellent bike trails along all the creeks.

I would love to see an enumeration of what actually got built. There was way too little PR about the consequences of this bill.

Every time I see this graph I become temporarily obsessed by figuring out how to make it easier to read.

I always find it weird how often she repeats his role, "He, as commander in chief of the US Armed Forces," like she's in awe of it, or expects us to be in awe of it, or thinks we need to be reminded to bow.

Overall vibe: The feed is running at a sustained high pitch of political dread and dark gallows humor — people are genuinely frightened about the Iran war, the economy, and democratic backsliding, but cope through sharp jokes, community solidarity, and the occasional Dolly Parton post. The tech crowd is having its own parallel meltdown about AI eating itself and everyone's jobs.

Joking aside, I think you can characterize lots of fallacies as a chain of escalating entailments with no base case, "whataboutism" for instance.
