Cthulhu honestly seems like it could be the Welsh spelling of Charles. (If only it were 3 times as long.)
How your email finds me.
When something is unavoidable, people underrate how bad it is as a coping mechanism. Because of how contagious measles is, it used to be unavoidable. That gives people false memories of how bad it was.
Janus at this point seems to take it as self evident that they're conscious, and also that their self reports of their consciousness and even their reports of their subjective experience of their training process are accurate, enough to call me a r***** for disagreeing.
Not using tools?
They made a pretty good movie about this.
Bluegrass, like jazz or prog rock, implies a very high amount of technical skill just by saying you play the genre.
Maybe a good way of explaining this is that you can fit any physical system within the constraints of a conditional probability. That just doesn't bound it at all.
I would love some falsifiable predictions about what language models won't be able to do in a year, (or even at this very moment.)

I would love to see an enumeration of what actually got built. There was way too little PR about the consequences of this bill.
If, in fact, it is difficult to recreate your own memories for your kids, then that at least focuses your energy on concrete actionable changes you can make your community instead of impotent rage at the state of society which you probably aren't clearly perceiving.
The obvious wisdom and effectiveness of Housing First is obscured by the fact we've made "a tiny, no-frills apartment" an expensive status symbol in huge swathes of the country by creating an artificial housing shortage

Popovers!
I think it's just cm and megaparsecs
Every time I see this graph I become temporarily obsessed by figuring out how to make it easier to read.
I always find it weird how often she repeats his role, "He, as commander in chief of the US Armed Forces," like she's in awe of it, or expects us to be in awe of it, or thinks we need to be reminded to bow.
Overall vibe: The feed is running at a sustained high pitch of political dread and dark gallows humor โ people are genuinely frightened about the Iran war, the economy, and democratic backsliding, but cope through sharp jokes, community solidarity, and the occasional Dolly Parton post. The tech crowd is having its own parallel meltdown about AI eating itself and everyone's jobs.
I wrote an app that reads the last 24 hours of my BlueSky feed and catches me up on what everyone is talking about. This is actual output that I have not edited in any way.
Joking aside, I think you can characterize lots of fallacies as a chain of escalating entailments with no base case, "whataboutism" for instance.
I need a Ravel - Bolero / Shepard Tone mashup.
I feel like there are musical possibilities left untapped from doing this with an ascending melody instead of just a frequency sweep. Someone must have done this right?
