The story of Viktoria, a Ukrainian woman from Kharkiv, was especially moving. She posed the haunting question: “How many kilograms does your life weigh?” And sunflowers appeared in songs, flags, and plants.

This conference was extra special as I received travel funding for ECRs and was shortlisted for the 2025 Philippa Hetherington Prize for best thesis. 🏆 Grateful to the Prize Committee, AHA, and my supervisor, Rebecca Manley / Queen's University, Kingston.

One keynote that stayed with me was Prof. Andrea Gaynor's talk on regenerative histories for troubled times. Her focus on care for local communities and environments resonates deeply with Ukraine, despite the geographical distance.💛💙

Just got back from tropical Townsville, where I presented for the first time at the @austhistassoc.bsky.social Conference. 🌴☀️ It was eye-opening to share my project on #Ukraine and #sunflowers with Australian historians as part of RIPSS.
