Cities in Vermont and Maine are experiencing some of the same tactics that ICE has been using across Minnesota since December, and facing lots of resistance.

We need reparations for ICE victims.

Anything short of that is setting the stage for a massive wealth grab from people of color that will re-entrench racial disparities for generations.

4th Circuit Rules That States Can Compel Trans Adults To "Appreciate Their Sex" Via Care Bans They ruled that states "encouraging citizens to appreciate their sex" through care bans is a constitutional goal, affirming West Virginia's Medicaid ban for trans adults.

1. Horrifying ruling out of the 4th Circuit.

An all-Republican 4th Circuit panel has just ruled that states can compel trans adults to "appreciate their sex" by enacting care bans.

It even directly says that trans adult care bans are legal in the ruling.

The thing you never stop hearing about the Dem elite β€” that their messaging on certain issues was captured by a noisy sliver of the population who don’t talk like normal people β€” is all that’s happening to the entirety of elite gop, admin and otherwise β€” comms and policymakers

Federal judge demands answers from top Minnesota prosecutor in 'extraordinary' contempt hearing The judge demanded answers from Minnesota U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen about why immigrants’ belongings weren’t returned after they were unlawfully detained.

A judge in Minnesota is threatening to hold federal officials in contempt after ICE and DOJ ignored court orders.

At least 35 β€œshow cause” orders have been issued since August for defying rulings. Court orders are not suggestions – ignoring them erodes the rule of law.

I haven't said anything about this before, bc in the grand scheme of horrors this only rates as an inconvenience, but since others are experiencing it:

Just three days after CBP arrested me for filming them outside Broadview on 9/27, my TSA Pre & Global Entry were suspendedβ€”and so were my wife's.

She’d Never Changed Her Gender Marker. Kansas Invalidated Her License Anyway. β€” Assigned A trans Kansas resident recently changed her name but not her gender marker on her license, fearing what Kansas may do if she did. The Kansas DMV still flagged her ID.

This story, from @natezuke.bsky.social, is absolutely wild. A trans woman who never changed her gender marker was issued a letter invalidating her license. At the DMV they cut up her license, which had an "M" marker.

Exactly right: β€œWe’re long past the point at which there are neutral legal principles that can be deployed to persuasively reconcile all of the Court’s behavior … It makes the Court at least look like what so many regularly accuse it of being: a font of partisan political power, and not much more.”

The Trump Administration is Testing Conversion Therapy By Medically Experimenting on Trans People in Prisons The Bureau of Prisons is subjecting trans people to conversion therapy and denying them care with the goal of helping them "recover." It's trying to prove dangerous conversion practices can work.

Under a new policy released Thursday, the Trump Administration will test conversion therapy on trans people in prisons. It explicitly states that it aims to help trans people β€œrecover,” all the while forcibly detransitioning them both medically and socially.

WOW. 19 people, all who were imprisoned and mistreated in a foreign prison at the direct command of the United States, are brave enough to say β€œWe are innocent, and we will endure more time imprisoned to prove that.”

I can only admire the enormous courage such a move takes.

you could’ve said the same for other US institutions like federal government or universities or nonprofits but in each case it turned out that these differences are much less relevant for democratic resilience than we had thought.

As noted, Rosen asserted in his email that "[t]he lawyers in my civil division
didn't deserve" the supposedly inaccurate January 28 order. Putting aside the fact that
the January 28 order was not inaccurate, Rosen failed to mention that this Court said the
following in the show-cause order that preceded the January 28 order:
The Court expresses its appreciation to attorney Ana Voss and her colleagues [in the civil division], who have struggled mightily to ensure that respondents comply with court orders despite the fact that respondents have failed to provide them with adequate resources.
ECF No. 7 at 2 n.1.
The judges of this District have been extraordinarily patient with the government
attorneys, recognizing that they have been put in an impossible position by Rosen and
his superiors in the Department of Justice (leading many of those attorneys- including, unfortunately, Ana Voss- to resign). What those attorneys "didn't deserve" was the
Administration sending 3000 ICE agents to Minnesota to detain people without making
any provision for handling the hundreds of lawsuits that were sure to follow.

If anything is "beyond the pale," it is ICE's continued violation of the orders of
this Court. Increasingly, this Court has had to resort to using the threat of civil
contempt to force ICE to comply with orders. The Court is not aware of another
occasion in the history of the United States in which a federal court has had to threaten
contempt -again and again and again - to force the United States government to comply
with court orders.
