I watched a documentary (or maybe a mid-length BBC investigative piece?) a few years back that examined the gender imbalance in China, and how this stacked things in favour of women when it came to marriage. I wish I could remember more of it - looked at material wealth and marriage I think?
Currently reading Careless People, after a string of fiction books, and I keep having to correct my brain when it looks for a redemption arc.
Horrible people. Horrible sector.

So, following the US taking control of Venezuelan oil, the US bomb a refinery in Iran - pushing up the price of oil. But sure, it's all about the rights of women and girls.
Another completely predictable thing has just happened.
The House of Lords Digital & Communications Committee just published their report on AI, copyright & the creative industries, and their conclusions could not be clearer.

A lobbyist who worked directly for Peter Mandelson, on the Palantir board, and on the board of *four* NHS trusts.
Lobbying the NHS to hand over even more patient data to Palantir.

Quietly, calmly and forensically, BBC just dismantled the Trump communications shitshow on Iran.
No hyperbole, just laying out an unprecedented military, diplomatic and reputational shambles.
Worth a watch.

So appalling that UK politicians and newspapers are encouraging full-on participation in a war that (among many other issues) was launched without consulting us, has no apparent strategy or endgame, and has already involved US-Israeli forces blowing up a school and killing over a hundred kids.

I'm so relieved IWD is on a Sunday this year, because my hackles have been up for the longest time now and I can't imagine a day of hollow simpering social media posts is going to help with that.
Don't even get me started on the not-so-subtle messaging of 'Give to Gain'.

We want the media and politicians to recognise that there is a large number of women who are supportive of the trans+ community. We call on them to report truthfully about the sources of violence against women and to address the systems that perpetuate harm. notinourname.org.uk/petition/not...

A few months ago, some of our team travelled to South Africa with a cohort of researchers for a week of interdisciplinary activity in Wits.
In this new post, Samantha Aspinall reflects on the week, why it worked so well, and what we can take forward into our new programmes ๐
Thatโs a great shout - it might also mean that itโs not me doing clear-up every time.
She's right about something. Charlotte does embody the New Conservatives, because everyone decided her candidacy was irrelevant and she lost her deposit.
The Green victory in Denton is the result which will have the biggest effect on Labour, far more so than a Reform win.
The blithe assumption progressives have nowhere else to go has been proved catastrophically wrong.

Super glad to see a #GreenWin and not a #Goodwin this morning!
It's great to see how those doorstop conversations really helped shift things locally. The right candidate and the right approach for a massively overdue move in the national conversation.
Would definitely like to see more of this.
Matt Goodwin definitely not a Goodloser
But heโll be subject to a skills and competencies exam before heโs given any responsibility. Until then heโs only allowed to fold leaflets.
There's loads of cooperative games out now. I was an absolute monster with monopoly as a child, so to delay finding out whether my kids have inherited that particular gene, we tend to play games that encourage working together.
Good luck to everyone out today. Hoping for an excellent bit of positive news to end the week ๐
