American culture of the 1840’s would have been *very fucking surprised* to see the Irish considered as co-founders.
Elon’s an ahistorical dipshit, but its always worth saying some stuff out loud: if you‘re a fellow Irish-American and you aren’t 100% pro-immigrant, you’re a fucking embarassment.
IF YOU'RE UNEMPLOYED IT'S NOT BECAUSE THERE ISNT ANY WORK JUST LOOK AROUND: A HOUSING SHORTAGE, CRIME, POLLUTION; WE NEED BETTER SCHOOLS AND PARKS. WHATEVER OUR NEEDS, THEY ALL REQUIRE WORK. AND AS LONG AS WE HAVE UNSATISFIED NEEDS, THERE'S WORK TO BE DONE. SO ASK YOURSELE, WHAT KIND OF WORLD HAS WORK BUT NO JOBS. IT'S A WORLD WHERE WORK IS NOT RELATED TO SATISFYING OUR NEEDS, WORLD WHERE WORK IS ONLY RELATED TO SATISFYING THE PROFIT NEEDS OF BUSINESS. THIS COUNTRY WAS NOT BUILT BY THE HUGE CORPORATIONS OR GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRACIES. IT WAS BUILT BY PEOPLE WHO WORK. AND, IT IS WORKING PEOPLE WHO SHOULD CONTROL THE WORK TO BE DONE. YET, AS LONG AS EMPLOYMENT IS TIED TO SOMEBODY ELSE'S PROFITS, THE WORK WONT GET DONE.
the Black Panthers were right
How fucking dare they quote Vonnegut
Also thought this was interesting 🙃

Bill Ackman @BillAckman X.com President @realDonaldTrump and @SecScottBessent, and @pulte, I have a simple idea on how to lower mortgage rates and spreads: One of the unique features of U.S. conventional mortgages is that they are prepayable at any time without a penalty. While this feature is attractive for homeowners, it comes at a significant cost as buyers of mortgage backed securities ('MBS') require a significant increase in spread to compensate them for giving the borrower the option to prepay at anytime. Why don't Fannie and Freddie also offer non-prepayable mortgages where if the borrower wishes to prepay the loan, he would have to pay a prepayment penalty? I asked one of my friends who is an expert and large investor in MBS what the estimated savings today would be on a 30-year Fannie/Freddie
Lmfao what an awesome proposal. One reason you need a 90% income tax rate at this level is these guys are too stupid to have the amount of power they do. Like giving a glock to a 4 year old
Oh lord please don’t be a packers fan
For all that the media has spent years freaking out about what social media does to our brains, I don’t understand why there appears to be little effort to grapple with the fact that these chatbots are, for some not insignificant portion of the population, literally psychosis machines
*ruffling through highlighted pages (of gangsters of capitalism, for today at least)*
“Why do you pull out a book anytime I ask a question?!”
This is essentially the plot of The Sound of Music.
In 2023 I became obsessed with videos of dads in cargo shortswaiting in parking lots during Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. So when she came to town, I grabbed a camera and headed down to talk to them. I thought it'd be funny. It turned out to be something else entirely.
It would have been nice if Jones (or The Daily Beast) pointed out that while diversity may be our nation's strength, & that's a lovely sentiment to embrace, Bad Bunny playing the Super Bowl has nothing to do with immigration because HE'S NOT AN IMMIGRANT.
Pope Leo calls on journalists to report facts and expose disinformation.

We should be able to report accounts for banning due to being straight up AI slop, so I reported this for misinformation. Good luck thickening skim milk if cornstarch is optional and also it has never heard of a roux apparently.
These guys have been throwing random people into gulags without a second thought but they've suddenly rediscovered the concept of presumption of innocence

I have known @ZohranKMamdani since we worked together to provide debt relief for thousands of beleaguered taxi drivers & fought to stop a fracked gas plant in Astoria. He ran an impressive campaign that connected with New Yorkers about affordability, fairness, & opportunity. • 1.9K 17 869 3.5K In 977K Chuck Schumer @chuckschumer ... Lol your most dramatic friend having to publicly congratulate her sister on getting engaged first.
what are you supposed to do when the "good" political party doesn't treat a dozen credible sexual harassment claims as disqualifying for a political candidate. how are you supposed to ignore that
Whether what’s occurring in Los Angeles is a noble rebellion, a destructive riot, or a bit of both, the protests here have been the most intense demonstrations against President Donald Trump and his policies since he retook office. They were set off by a new, more aggressive phase of Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids across the city last week. But it’s important to keep some perspective on the size of the confrontations. Los Angeles County covers more than 4,000 square miles, with a population of 10 million, and across much of that sunny expanse, life has carried on as usual this week.
Damn if only we had some kind of independent institution whose role was to assess the claims of political actors on the merits.

Image post with a drawing of a little girl facing away toward a tall chair, that reads "Students need to read books. Entire books. Our society is distracted, unfocused, and in a hurry. A curriculum that rushes through content perpetuates the anxiety of our time. Reading a book (slowly and leisurely) is a countercultural act." -Brian Tolentino, M.Ed.
the urge to share this every time I see it is *strong* 💙📚
Again, this isn't an issue of left vs right, Republican vs Democrat, but authoritarianism vs democracy. You have to decide what side you're on, and fight.
It is amazing to me that Dems are pressured to water down their messaging in order to avoid alienating 'centrists,' but Republicans can round up and deport sobbing children without fear of alienating 'centrists.' Says a lot about what we mean when we say 'centrists'
"You support refugees fleeing from from war and yet you oppose refugees fleeing from a threat that doesn't exist, hmm."
Oh yeah nice one kid hook that hope for humanity right into my veins
