Well done, Susie. Really interesting and it really resonated with people with lived experience listening too.
ππ you were wonderful! So lovely to see you and catch up xx
Thank you, Sophie, for all your hard work and guidance in your role as chair! You will be missed. And a warm welcome to Elissa Manzi our new chair π€ @emanzi.bsky.social
Great to consider how we can integrate gesture work from the acute stage, with all aphasia severities & how targeting gesture can support other communication modalities #aphasia #SLT #mySLTday #BASConf25
Such a privilege to present in @basaphasia.bsky.social conference symposium with @abracabadger.com, @annacaute.bsky.social, Chirag Girish Kiran and @susieslt.bsky.social about #gesture ax & therapy. 1/2 #BASConf25 #aphasia
Consideration of application to the clinical setting... and lots of discussion, including the importance of combining gesture with other modalities
We now have a symposium with speakers discussing perspectives on gesture assessment and treatment with Anna Caute, Abi Roper, Chirag Girish Kiran, Sussex Williams, Elissa Manzi. Gesture is critical to communication and there is an unmet need for standardised assessment. #BASconf25
Thanks, Sheetal!
Brilliant to start #BASConf25 hearing about the wonderful city of Dundee! Excited for the day ahead @basaphasia.bsky.social
What an incredible afternoon at the Norwich Aphasia Choir concert. The joy in this picture says it all! More than just music- it was a reminder of the power of community and communication. Now Iβm excited to head to Dundee to share about the choirβs songwriting at @basaphasia.bsky.social Conference!
We are doing a survey to understand why other professionals do/don't refer people with Primary Progressive Aphasia for speech-language support
We want Drs, nurses, psychologists, social workers, OTs, PTs & any other profession.
The survey can be accessed here: qualtrics.ucl.ac.uk/jfe/form/SV_...

This image shows a musician with a guitar smiling next to a flip chart with song lyrics.
The lyrics to a song written by the aphasia choir, on a flipchart. The lyrics are: βrough seas, stormy waters, Chasing words just out of reach Overwhelming darkness Aphasia took my speech Brain haze, clouded thoughts, Where words fail, music speaks. Itβs a beautiful day Cast the anchors away Letting go, feeling free Riding the waves of the sea Rays of light are coming through the clouds.β
Yesterday our aphasia choir wrote their own song. All words carefully chosen collaboratively by choir members, with a contribution from each individual included. We used art and total communication to generate ideas and support those with severe aphasia. And it was indeed a beautiful day! π΅
Thanks for highlighting our review! An under researched area that Iβm looking forward to shedding more light onβΌοΈ
