Det er et lille land! Og et demokrati
Det er et lille land! Og et demokrati
Have seen two politicians putting up their own signs, bearing their own faces, in the last two days.
fascinerende trΓ₯d
I don't know why this hasn't occurred to me before, but suddenly your posts are making me think about my late father-in-law, who was, so far as I know, an electrician in maintenance gangs on the railway his entire working life.
Yes?
A brick and stone building very badly damaged by far undergoing restoration under a large white plastic canopy.
A display featuring a fire damaged sandstone statue of a mythical Greek figure.
A wall panel explaining Denmark's colonial trade.
A map of the "triangular trade" between Denmark, Africa, and the Caribbean.

@danskerhverv.dk have opened a new exhibition at BΓΈrsen as it is restored following the terrible fire of 2024. It is very good. I recommend it. With one exception. The two panels on colonial trade, which talk about "the triangular trade," make no mention at all of slavery. It is a shocking omission.
Keith Jarrett was also from Allentown, which I think is more impressive. But he's obviously not as famous.
Haven't seen it (not out here yet) but am excited to. Amanda Seyfried is probably the most famous person from my wife's hometown, Allentown PA. The region is home to significant Moravian, Mennonite & Amish communities, but not Shaker, to my knowledge. But Hannah is much more expert in this than me.
Downloaded.

Jeg undskylder for mit dansk.

This is such a powerful expression of the experience of widowhood.
Kenelm Digby (1603-1665) writing of his grief after the death of his wife Venetia:
'everywhere I carry my hell with me'.
What is the old structure in the first picture?
They do remind me strongly of parts of Konventum, just outside Helsingor, which I am lucky enough to spend time at every November on a departmental writing retreat. I'm glad they looked well loved.
I like them. But, of course, living there might be a different thing.
Photograph of a vintage clothing store on Elmegade, Copenhagen, that reads βproxy archive* YOUR GATEWAY TO AN ARCHIVAL WARDROBE.β
Historians and archivists, let me see your archival wardrobes! And what was your gateway?
Just this morning someone reminded of Joanna Newsom's "Have One on Me," and the song "Go Long" especially. It's hard to shake these lyrics ...
"Who made you this way?
Who made you this way?
...
You burn in the Mekong
To prove your worth"
It really is. I was sold from the first page.
Of course IWD notes its socialist roots. It emerged from a declaration at the 1910 at the International Socialist Women's Conference, held at the Folket Hus on Jagtvej, Copenhagen, about a kilometre from where I'm sitting.

Late to the party, but very grateful for the invitation.
To be fair, I guess his double first from Oxford is *better* than my solitary first from North Staffs Poly.
!!!!!!!!
"Go Long" alone is enough. Men should probably be required to listen and digest.
Me too!

Iβm an absolute sucker for the work of L.A. Ring and finally got to see the incredible collection at Ordrupgaard Museum this afternoon.
Just tell 'em the facts. Any facts will do; they're all the same.
Fair point!
