Sen. Chris Coons: "I'm gravely concerned that the administration is preparing for a very risky special operation to try to send American and Israeli troops into some of Iran's heavily fortified and protected nuclear enrichment sites."
Every recent Republican president has got us into war.
In this morning's newsletter, Mark Hertling has a terrific piece on the Trump administration's lust for "War Porn," and I suggest that it's Taco Time for Trump. The brilliant art is by Hannah Yoest. open.substack.com/pub/thebulwa...
I sometimes wonder if his assignment isn’t to completely wreck the country. Hard to know what’s incompetence and what is malice sometimes.
TIL Trump didn't bother to refill the strategic petroleum reserve last year when oil was dirt cheap. what can you even say www.ft.com/content/d546...
After days of shifting rhetoric by the president, Hegseth addressed reporters only to add to the confusion about America's endgame.
The GOP was giving back 30 points in special elections before accelerating the American economy into the rocks, killing a bunch of children and getting 8 US servicemembers killed to replace a theocratic dinosaur with his son.
Disastrous barely begins to cover it.
Rand Paul: "I think we've gotten overextended. This is our second war in a month, and these wars are very very expensive not only in the lives that are lost, but also in treasure. I'm very very concerned about the debt. Half a trillion dollars for the military budget is fiscally irresponsible."
I know, "low-info" voters and all that, but I still marvel at how people don't realize everything gets worse under Republicans. I get far more scam calls than I used to. All these little laws go from "grossly insufficient" to "wholly unenforced."
If he doesn’t think there is “any possibility” of that, he is not qualified for leadership of any kind.
Ted Cruz: "I don't think there's any possibility that this becomes a long, protracted military engagement"
The issue is not whether the US is deliberately targeting civilians in Iran. The issue is what DOD's rules of engagement are in terms of how much risk they permit of mistakes (target vetting/validation) and/or collateral damage (taking into account civilians who are adjacent to a military target).
US as a junior partner in this military campaign
Reuters: Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they would not allow ‘one litre of oil’ to be shipped from the Middle East if US and Israeli attacks continue, prompting a warning from President Trump that the US would hit Iran much harder if it blocked exports from the vital energy-producing region.
WSJ: “.. Trump has at times been surprised that Tehran won’t cave despite the unrelenting joint U.S.-Israeli military campaign, according to people familiar with his thinking.”

Kaine: "As we saw in Vietnam & Iraq & as I think we're seeing now, our troops sometimes get betrayed by poor civilian decision making. They're gonna do what we ask them to do in wonderful ways, but when civilians don't make good decisions, who suffers? Them. We've had 7 troops come home to Dover."
NEW polling data on Trump voters: Overall 15% now disapprove of his job performance, including 19% of Hispanics, 22% of young voters, and 33% of Black 2024 Trump voters.
Affordability voters have shifted left on Trump and the House generic ballot:

Will any of the people who backed Trump ever acknowledge that his utter irresponsibility, cruelty, and ignorance were apparent from the very start, for anyone who had eyes to see or the guts to say? No, they won’t. They’ll forever wonder who could have possibly seen it coming.
Hegseth: "Today will be our most intense day of strikes inside Iran"
* HEGSETH: TODAY WILL BE MOST INTENSE DAY OF STRIKES

Hegseth reads from the Bible at his update today, reinforcing the impression that the illegal war is a Christian nationalist crusade.
One straightforward question a journalist might want to ask him: Sen John Kennedy yesterday said the missile attack that killed more than 100 little girls was an accident. Was it an accident or a product of precision and technical skill?
Who put this MFer in charge of the world?
As easy as it is to put the responsibility on Democrats, we’re going to need some Republicans (who have the majorities in Congress) to put their big boy hats on, too.
