I love the Frances books. I've read them all and I don't think there was one I thought was a weak link or disliked.
Please don't apologize--I'm happy to be added to the feed. Many thanks!
My TAKE 5 interview is with @carolynbfraiser.bsky.social ! She wrote her new PB, M IS FOR MASON JAR, on a dare and sold it to the first publisher!π€―

The greatest part of a writerβs time is spent in reading, in order to write; a man will turn over half a library to make one book.β β Samuel Johnson
A five-star Goodreads review of Cathy Carr's LOST KITES AND OTHER TREASURES, reading in full: "I really like this."
I've said it before, but it bears saying again: a good review does not have to be a LONG review. My newest GR review is four words--and it does the job! If you like a book, please post a review and make a writer happy today! #mglit #kidlit #teacher #Librarian #abramskids
Recently a beloved character appeared at a sporting event, middle grade authors held a conversation, an author-illustrator made his debut, and a graphic novelist enjoyed a launch party + more
It's part of the reason I write children's books.
Good advice and this can be so hard to do at times.
Dear Writer,
Remember to find and hold onto the joy of storytelling.
Love, Kayleigh
The books we love when we're young change our lives forever - and so do the people who help us find those books. So here's a huge & heartfelt THANK YOU to all the amazing teachers, librarians, booksellers & everyone else out there who's helping kids find books to read & love! #literacy
When I ask friends which books have influenced them the most, nearly every one of them mentions a children's book--at least one and often more.
I agree. Marketing, overall, is a problem in traditional kidlit publishing, especially now.
Yes. And don't discount inflation as a force. If people have to choose between buying their kids books or buying their families groceries, they're going to choose groceries.
People seem to just love audiobooks. I've noticed my audiobook sales are inching upward while the print book sales stay steady or inch downward.
You're right! I think one part of the problem is a lack of books that MG boys are likely to enjoy and engage with.
So the latest publishing gossip I heard was that we should stop writing middle-grade books for boys, because "they don't read anyway." I know at least one middle-grade boy who is a dedicated reader. How about you? Do you know one? #mglit #kidlit
A photograph of Hemingway, with the words "Legacy Library" above it.
Today is the birthday of American author Ernest Hemingway, who won the 1953 Pulitzer Prize for "The Old Man and the Sea," and the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954. His personal library of over 7,000 volumes has been cataloged on LibraryThing as one of our Legacy Libraries. #ππ #Booksky
Hilarious! Thanks!
This is good entertainment right here.
βBy fifth grade, I knew I wanted to write sports books and ones that featured someone like me as an athleteβ: Amar Shah on his love of the sports genre and his new graphic memoir, βWish I Was a Ballerβ buff.ly/eoe5pvz
Keep creating, even if the world feels hard. Even if the work feels hard. The world needs your voice. There's a kid out there who will be changed because of your imagination and efforts. And even if the work feels lonely, you aren't alone. I'm so proud to be in the publishing trenches with you.
I still haven't succeeded in getting added, but I will read the instructions once more and try again. π

I absolutely LOVED that line in Winter's Bone and think of it so often.
Not a damn thing. Not one damn thing!
I can't figure it out either, and I've read Debbie's explanation more than once.
And quilting.

Never forget about the backlist--some of my favorite books were written a decade or more ago. So many good books, so little time.
