In the UK we're not far off having a generation who are still paying their own student finance, whilst also becoming liable for some of their children's costs...
If your defence against being called racist is to invoke Bernard Manning as YOUR DEFENCE, then you really are a racist fuckwit

It's not that Farage was racist 50 years ago, it's that he is clearly lying about his past patterns of behaviours. It wasn't a one off that was forgettable for him but memorable for the victim, it was a regular occurrence. He simply isn't credible & this Trumpian attempt to brush it off won't work.
Who's started using this phrase?! Lordy the world has gone crazy

This really isn't a normal lead up to a budget
Lol thought I was reading a headline about the UK Labour government π€£
Hey the Nazis did this to my grandparents so this sounds cool @teamlabouruk.bsky.social
Tells you everything you need to know about why I won't ever be voting Labour whilst the current crop of MPs form it's ideological core. I am horrified at what Labour has become.
Also, incase anyone was wondering, I didn't vote for them at the last GE, but that felt less of a permanent decision.
EVEN IF they address the two child cap at the next budget that was a DAY ONE priority for me. Same with changing the ideological tune on asylum, immigration, and trans-rights. They've had their chances, they've squandered them and will never get my vote. Green possibly Lib Dem for me now.
100% never voting for Labour so long as the current crop of MPs form it's ideological core. I am pro immigrants and asylum seekers being able to settle here without burdensome financial and legal hurdles. I'm anti-child poverty, and pro-trans rights. Fuck Labour.
The Ukrainian war is costing the UK an absolute fortune ~Β£2.5bn per year in grants etc, which is roughly the same as the entire budget of the Department of Culture, Media and Sport...

I really shouldn't be walking around in jeans and t-shirt in November, at night...
AI is great for helping capture, organise and sometimes edit thoughts, I use it ALL THE TIME for this type of activity. Sometimes it can make helpful suggestions for key literature FOR ME TO READ but the original thoughts are always mine and I am driving the direction.
I still can't get over just HOW MUCH MONEY the new RosalΓa track Berghain must have cost to produce... It's got a whole symphony orchestra AND choir on it... Playing new material, which isn't particularly easy to play π€―

Iβd forgotten that election nights can be better than drugs.

Listening to Rachel Reeves reminds me why The Greens are actually doing so well. There's no sense of hope in anything she says... It feels more like desperation from someone who knows they've made a monumentally strategic error by over promising and under-delivering www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
I can't remember the article, but someone did actually do some research calculating the cost/benefit of writing grant applications, and concluded that for most arts and humanities work it made sense to just equitably distribute money. It was only useful for things involving big machines/buildings.
That's fine if you're in a position where you have a secure/permanent job and/ot a manager who understands the calculus for all this. Not everyone has both of those.
It's actually quite useful to know that you have a sub 10% chance of getting a grant with some ESRC/AHRC... It's not about you, we are all broadly capable of writing "good" grants, it's just the system is so highly competitive it's very hard to get them first time round.
Look, some of us had a busy (π) weekend, let us have both a Green revolution AND coffee... Have they never heard of bread and roses?

Nothing screams inequality quite like spending Β£180k PER YEAR on a tutor for your 1 year old (you can buy a small house for this in the the cheaper parts of Greater Manchester), whilst other people face unexpected bills and have to choose between food, heating, or rent...
βQueenslandβs controversial ban on puberty blockers and other hormone therapies is unlawful because of a failure to properly consult health executives on a decision affected by political interference, a court has heard.β
