We’ve been making podcasts about the life of Mary Queen of Scots. I really wish I could play them, they are amazing. Some of them have ‘interviewed’ Mary and said ‘so we’ve not seen you for 500 years, how are you?’ The reply, ‘well I lost my head a bit in the in between time’!

Thank you. It’s more the guilt of not getting it right for all of them.

The view out the back of the library. It is cloudy but between the clouds the sky is blue and it is light.
Incredible scenes here. Somehow it's March and somehow it's 5pm and SOMEHOW we're already on EPISODE NINE of 'How light is it in #Orkney at 5pm this week?'
It's cloudy but we are striding headlong into glorious longer days
And it is THIS LIGHT! 💡

How do people actually manage maths? I go from early to knocking on third level and it just feels impossible to give everyone what they need.

Bright green 4G pitch under a blue sky. Rugby posts to the left.
Spent International Women’s Day watching 50 awesome girls play rugby. The joy they get from playing as a team is a wonderful thing.
(It was on a 4G pitch so youngest has just had a very stingy shower!)

Very much looking forward to this event in Irvine. Do come along and design and name an ice cream. The winning ice cream flavour will be made by Vanilla Joe's!

I’m on the waiting list to see osteo for hopefully a new one. When I asked the doctor if there was any chance of making it worse, she burst out laughing and said ‘none at all, it’s completely destroyed!’ So that’s good in one way I suppose…!

It was stunning at the top. Had a bit of a moment because I realised I’m right on the edge of my hip letting me do this. I fell coming down and it’s so sore. Hills are a big part of my happy so it’s going to be hard if I have to stop.

Into The Blue. Canvas. 4m by 13m. On display at Dilton Gallery, Southwark Park.
Close up of a canvas. Crushed shells and string and glitter.
Footprints in acrylic paint.
Another section of the canvas.
Sir Frank Bowling's art work is part of our nursery curriculum. I've just been to see the first public showing of his latest work, Into The Blue. Frank is 92 years old and his work is an inspiration to us. His techniques are open ended and free. Perfect for young learners.

Stormy grey clouds over hills and the sea just catching the sun in the distance.
Stormy grey clouds over hills and fields. Sun just shining behind the clouds.
Grey clouds with light behind. Trees silhouetted in the front, hills in the distance.
A person’s legs stretched out wearing blue swirly fleece trousers.
Went up the wee hill (the only place not in the sun!) and caught an amazing view of the Lakes on the way down. Put my fleecy trousers on when we got back to try to signal to my stupid brain that it’s rest time!

Sun setting over a river and fields.
Small castle over a river. A white boat in front of it. Blue sky behind.
Sun setting over a river. Small castle on the right.
Sun setting over fields.
Not to brag, but the sun came out again. Week 9 done. Happy Friday!

My latest article for Educate magazine is all about verse novels. In it, I explore how they can help make reading possible for children who might feel overwhelmed by the amount of text on a page, why they work brilliantly as read-alouds and how they're helpful for developing empathy.
