It is actually beyond ridiculous when you know that the UK is one the pioneers of astronomy/astrophysics in the world and are integral to many ongoing/upcoming space missions... And therefore removing this opportunity for many upcoming young researchers is very frustrating

This has been a *long* time in the works with an especially long review process... However, this is firm evidence that perseverance and patience pays off!

SPOILER ALERT: it is feasible - with 3-5 spacecraft, with the most advantageous satellite points being Sun-Earth line, L4 and L5.

This paper, led by the excpetional Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering expertise at University of Manchester takes the introduced science premise and mission goals from our first paper and develop the associated mission and system analysis to assess the feasibility of this type of mission.

I am very pleased to announce that the (long-awaited) sequel to our SURROUND concept science paper (a CubeSat constellation equipped with radio spectrometers for operational space weather monitoring) is finally published!

Now I have returned from some well needed summer vacation, I am pleased to announce that I will remain at Aalto University for another 2 years! Still with a focus of space weather *not* necessarily always in our Solar System ๐Ÿ‘€

As much as I sort of joked about this, it is actually an issue that needs fixed... If the climatology nowcasting needs work, then our space weather forecasting needs MORE work (since many methods use climatology methods)... And with the clamp down on NOAA, it will only get more difficult

Spoiler: Astroinformatics is useful throughout space weather and more cross collaboration needs to be done - especially now we transition to a new age of ML and AI

Thank you to @diasdublin.bsky.social and the Solar and planetary groups for having me last week to present my latest work and to talk science! Always love working with these great groups and their projects that literally span the solar system!

Playing a gig for vanhojenpรคivรค (old people's day - high school graduation with traditional dances and they dress up in old clothes. Very interesting tradition...), forgetting I had to do it all again ๐Ÿ˜ด

Almost certainly being paranoid, but astronomers: someone outside the US has ADS backed up, right?

So this was the sky last night. Early evening is the best time to catch the planetary parade, but itโ€™ll be happening for few weeks, and Mercury might even be visible too at the end of the month.

This is very grim... So only straight white men can now be successful? And everyone else their success comes from DEI hires?

Very grim but I'm not surprised. I had a feeling NOAA would be on their list as they research climate change, (space) weather monitoring etc. Their research is invaluable to science... So this scary...
