Had so much fun with @porchtn (Nashville’s nonprofit writing org), at their annual Heatbreaker’s Happy Hour. Great readings and wonderful people.

One of the things I love most about being Gen X is that we believe in the power of Grassroots movements, and the magic of community in supporting the arts. We need to flex these muscles again, now more than ever.
#grassroots
Thanks! Followed the rest of the crew too ☺️
I’m an introvert, but now have a strong need to connect with likeminded people in meaningful ways. It takes extra energy to step out of my comfort zone, but it’s so rewarding. Maybe I’m not alone in this, and many of us will choose to build more community, helping each other through the chaos.
They all have to be on the heated blanket.
Hope you have a great day and remember: don’t get lost in the comment sections. Click your heels and repeat as needed—“there’s no place like sanity”.
We’ll keep an eye out!
I drove behind this person for a long time today, and really feel we should be friends, based on their bumper stickers:
-I’m doing my best
-resist, persist, repeat
-I will not tolerate your bullshit, but I wish you peace
-We’re gonna be okay, buddy
If you know them, tell them they have a fan.
I couldn’t gamble his life against a rumor. What if I brushed it off only to find it was true? This made me think of all the what-ifs haunting every victim’s family.

Recently finished reading Sarah Braunstein’s Bad Animals (loved), and am now into Chelsea Bieker’s Madwoman. Guess I’ve arrived at my unhinged female protagonist era. Perfect timing.
I found a local bookseller who has my weird reading tastes, but knows about all the good shit way before I do and I feel like I won the lottery.
Release!!
For the past week, our neighbor’s middle school daughter has been going outside in the mornings and evenings, alternatively yelling and singing at the top of her lungs. She seems to really enjoy it, and I’m cheering her on from inside my house because we should all practice this kind of release.
New desk + new writing space = new hideout.
Margot and Clover in the snow! They prefer breakfast.
Yes!!
We’re supposed to get 5-8 inches of snow in Nashville, while the fires continue to rage in LA. Thinking of so many unhoused people and animals braving these extremities snaps me out of my sometimes self-focused narrative. Mercy. Gratitude. Compassion.
Timothy Chalamet’s performance as Dylan far exceeded my expectations in A Complete Unknown. Can’t wait to watch it again.
Left my house as the sun was coming up to beat the lines at our best local bakery downtown. The lack of traffic and speed in Nashville reminded me of the old days when I was a kid; like I was returning to my slower hometown. Nostalgia is a trippy time machine on holiday highways, friends.
One of my dogs is eating my book markers. I don’t know which one, because they’re ashamed to do it when I’m around. I find little scraps on the floor, and my reading spot in a book empty and bare. It’s like binge book marker eating. I guess they’re jealous of my reading time.
Colm Toibin’s follow-up to his novel, Brooklyn is immersive. Annnnd, Jessie Buckley, one of my favorite actors narrates the audiobook.
That’s incredible
I was a little afraid this would be a bro movie, but it’s the direct opposite. Loved it. ⭐️
podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/o... This episode of Other People with author, Karl Ove Knausgaard is incredibly inspiring. (note it’s from 9/17/2023)
So proud ✌️
While my fifteen-year old was driving my car today, Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” came on the radio. My kid got super excited, said he knows every word, and started singing along, such a surprising delight. Turns out, it’s his “song” with his girlfriend. The tenderness of the moment made me teary.
Thank you!

This latest one is particularly poignant. She threads so many interesting themes throughout the story.
