I want to write a “one person, two beds” trope where a guy has a very restful night’s sleep and has plenty of room to unpack all his stuff.

Well I’ve let my draft rest for two and a half weeks. I guess now I have to do the thing I’ve kind of been dreading: sit down and actually read what I wrote.
Wish me luck, this could be rough.
After 9 months, 181k words, and most of a lifetime of casually dreaming about it, today, I finally got to type two of the most meaningful words I've ever written on the first draft of my novel.
I know it’s a first draft and I have a mountain of work ahead of me, but I wrote a book!!!
Instead trying to get my word count I sat down and outlined? And it helped? Like, now I have a bulleted list of everything that’s going to happen until the end? This shit is some weird magic.
Haha, the temptation to do that has been strong a couple of times.
I do have one earlier in the manuscript that says [DRAMATIC CONVERSATION, IDK WHAT ABOUT]. 😂😂
Today I wrote a whole chapter where one of the characters was just named [OTHER GUY].
Why am I like this?
There is a special nails on the chalkboard feeling I get if people say “downfall” when they mean “downside”.
Anyone else have benign things like that annoy you WAY too much?
I guess I never did an introduction post on here so here goes:
I’m a 41-year-old writer from the NYC area currently working on the first draft of a fantasy novel. I love talking with people about their creative journey and all the ups and many downs that go with it.
Let’s be friends!
Absolutely. I really liked Forbidden West but the worldbuilding and reveals of the history in Zero Dawn were just perfect. The writing skill it took to make a 1000 year old apocalypse also be a deeply personal story for the main character was just top notch.
Horizon might be my favorite game of all time. It just hits all the right notes for me.
Nothing like getting getting all excited about how high your word count for the day is only to realize it’s because you copied several paragraphs instead of cutting and pasting when you were moving stuff around.
Using AI and saying that you’re a writer is roughly like ordering fast food and saying that you’re a cook.
Mood reader when I’m picking things out, then absurdly stubborn when I start reading something. I read a lot of samples but once I commit I haven’t DNF’d a book in almost 3 years.
I usually have two going at once. A fantasy or sci-fi at home and a mystery or thriller for the commute to work.
I finally feel like I had my first couple of good writing days this year. 3k words this weekend with some good character moments and smooth plot.
About damn time. January has been a struggle so far.
I saw your post on threads and tried it. It’s SUCH a big difference!
I got like 100 new followers on here and now my mind is just… blank. No idea what to post.
Fingernails are weird right?
Thank you!!!
Holy shit, somehow I doubled my followers on here today? Welcome all! I guess I’ll actually have to start posting on here more. 😂
Hi! I’d love to be added. I’m a first time author and am trying to build up my community over here if I ultimately decide to jump ship from Threads.

Writing big battle scenes is HARD. This chapter I’m working on is probably going to be the longest in my book and I’m crawling through it.
I have a new appreciation for all the writers out there that do it well.
Shoot for the moon! Even if you miss, you’ll die a horrible death in the cold vacuum of space.
🤣🤣 I hope it doesn’t get to the point where I need to cut off my hand. Editing with a chainsaw would be pretty tough.
Cue me fist fighting myself over pacing issues 😂😂
First draft me is having a lot of trouble trusting future editor me. I don’t know that asshole. What if he fucks up everything I wrote? #writing
I've been feeling sick all week but despite that I MADE IT TO 75K WORDS!!! By my best guess I'm a little past my halfway point! This is the most I've ever written in my life and I'm so excited just to have gotten this far
My plot threads are getting really hard to hold together as I get into the depths of my WIP. I know where I want everything to end up but keeping things on track until then is getting challenging. Anyone else feel that way as they move through writing their fantasy novel?
Thanks!!!
I’d love to be added to the Fantasy one if there’s still room! Working on my first novel and trying to get into using BlueSky!
Hi all!!! Going to give Bluesky more of a try.
I’m an aspiring author working on my first novel. My current WIP is a colonial era Fantasy with espionage, intrigue and magical science. I’d love to chat with other writers on here about all the highs and lows of the journey. Let’s be friends!
