Language and the Science Wars How rhetorical skill elides inconvenient facts about, say, whether your mind will remain your own as you age.

New quick post up at LinkedIn and Substack about the common thread that links disparate Trump administration anti-science efforts.

No surprise, but depressing as hell anyway.

We're killing 1000s of Iranians & destroying ancient, vibrant places to obscure a) Trump's political decline & b) the drip-drip-drip revelations of Trump's pedophilia.

All that in our names, to the lasting shame ofβ€”and increased danger toβ€”every American.

I think the problem is deeper. Most of the reporters involved aren't really journalists in the classic sense. They've been trained to see quotes as facts, as the quanta of news stories; major newsrooms norms reinforce that view.

Which means that when Trump gives you a tasty quote, you're done.

I made this a year ago, so CBS should now be under state run news. but other than that I think it still holds.

Champ the tuxedo cat sits on the bottom edge of a bed next to a sun splash that mostly falls down the front edge, rather than the comfortable sleeping surface.

Daylight savings time has altered the positioning of the a.m. bedspread sun splash, and someone is not amused:

Trump openly lies about the bombed girls school. As Americans we make mistakes in war but they are unintentional and we own them.

Trump blaming Iran is no different than what Putin does when he blames Ukraine for attacks Russia clearly does.

We’ve become accepting of pure lies

Andrew O’Hagan Β· Stay Classy: Mummy’s Favourite The late queen can be held responsible for much, but nobody could accuse her of seeming to enjoy her role. For the...

Andrew O'Hagen has written a marvelous, judicious, furious essay about that other Andrew, the child-rapist former 4th-in-line-to-the-UK throne. Read to the end. The existence of an Epstein class is confirmed, and clearly identified with MAGA and Britain's Reform.

Should be noted that Talarico also advocates for a separation of church and state.

I'm a lifelong atheist, but if faith guides politicians to kindness and compassion, I will embrace them all with open arms regardless of religious denomination.

Don't care how others get there, love is love.

Trump bought Netflix and Warner Bros bonds at height of bidding war with Paramount By Trevor Hunnicutt and Matt Tracy WASHINGTON, March 9 (Reuters) - U.S.

There is no grift opportunity anywhere that this president won't grab.

According to the linked article, the president is exempt from conflict of interest laws. Not a problem when you have the integrity of, say Jimmy Carter.

Kind of a big deal right now.

So far the war on Iran has cost $9.4 billion.

That's $1 billion per day.

$41,666,667 per hour.

$11,574 per second.

Thousands of lives lost.

People don't want this. They want a living wage. They want healthcare. They want to be able to afford a home. They want their basic needs met.

Welp…I’ve a timeline for retirement with a plus/minus on the exact year.

Events over the last week have moved me hard to the plus side. The effect of Trump’s & MAGA’s war of choice on my ability to stop working is…not positive.

I’m lucky. I have a job in which I get to make that choice. But still.
