It’s exhausting having to go through all of my students’ sources so carefully when I suspect AI use. Like - I spend so much more time on them than they do.
Just. Read. The paper. Skim it, even! Please??
Invariably I have found citation errors in all of these “sources.” Wrong year of publication, wrong University, wrong journal edition, etc.
And often, even the paraphrasing is just plain wrong, and misrepresents what the author is actually saying.
Because kids asking AI for “supporting research” and aren’t finding and reading secondary sources I’m getting a lot of “Stevens posits” or “Smith writes that…” and then some generic blather usually from the abstract. Sometimes it’s just paraphrasing the title of the paper.
An infuriating “AI tell” that has developed in my senior students is the lack of direct quotations in their research papers.
What is this from? I wanna read it and be mad about it
Folks, don't use AI! Don't let your kids use AI. It strip-mines the soul. Stay away!

Everyone using a text based app thinking it's the "commons" could use some perspective. Most of America is watching videos, all of us reading text are in small echo chambers and personally I don't see the need to be in one with a bunch of Nazis.
