Here's one way that irresponsible crime reporting can reinforce racist stereotyping. The stock photo used for this article's social media preview shows a non-white person's hands in handcuffs. But if you search for the defendant's name, you can find a photo showing that she's a white woman.
When your neighbor on the left is being dragged away by masked men and your neighbor on the right can't get an X-ray for their child, be sure to quickly explain that "both parties are the same" and whatnot.
