Expression is an intention toward communication that can never be guaranteed.
The response belongs to the listener, but without expression, nothing unfolds.
Iβm leaning toward playing the rhythm as written, but Iβm unsure how mathematically accurate I can manage the polyrhythm. My goal is to make it musically convincing.
I usually donβt listen to recordings until Iβve made up my mind β perhaps not the smartest approach. I definitely had a coaching session with a professor who taught at the Manhattan School of Music in the mid-β90s, but I canβt remember what we did.
I am also working on this movement for an upcoming performance and have been asking myself the same question.
