A graphic that reads: '98% more children caught the bus in areas with the lowest incomes during Kids Go Free'
All over the West, Kids Go Free saw a huge increase in children using the bus π
In the summer, journeys often doubled year-on-year in the places where people benefit most from free bus travel - putting money back in families' pockets and helping kids explore our fantastic region β
By the end of the year, there will be over 250 new green buses. We've got approval for the Portishead Line and more new stations, and are committed to getting the work done so we can start to build mass transit with five years.
Our region deserves a transport system we can all trust and be proud of.
Seeing what other regions have achieved shows what is possible in the West too, and I am determined to get the work done to deliver transport here that is reliable, safe and affordable.
A Guardian opinion piece from Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, is headlined: "Labour must stop channelling Reform and unite with progressives. That's the lesson from Gorton and Denton."
I'm proud to lead a progressive region here in the West of England, working together to deliver change that people can see and feel.
Sadiq's right: a brave and bold vision of hope can build on the government's trade deals for jobs, breakfast clubs for kids, and protections for renters.
Helen Godwin, Mayor of the West of England, is pictured with the frontpage of the Western Daily Press, headlined βEnergy bills to fall by Β£117 from Aprilβ. An arrow points to the paper with text on the image reading, βBig news to bring down the cost of living in the West!β
Energy bills have been too high for too long, so it's great news for everyone in the West that they're set to fall by Β£117!
Our region is ready to play a key role in keeping down energy bills for good, with investment in wind, nuclear, and tidal here in the home of green jobs.

Here's what people in Redcliffe had to say about one option for what mass transit could look like in the West π
We need a transport system that people can trust, including better buses, more trains, and more: whether that's a tram or another form of mass transit.
Yesterday we launched our new vision for transport in the West... but what does that mean for you?
β
Better, more reliable buses
β
More trains, & new stations
β
Easier active travel - with e-scooters and bikes, & better routes to walk or wheel
β
Improved streets (potholes, we're looking at you!)
