Terrific book, indeed!!
They arrest her neighbors, who present as Latin American. She presents as white. So ICE (not the police, not the military) are using the same tactics reserved for flushing out serial killers who are in immediate danger of murdering again to arrest people who MIGHT not have proper paperwork. 3/
Warning, this might make you angry. I haven't yet seen this appear in the news.
Someone I know was asleep in her suburban Salt Lake City home when she was awakened in the dark early morning by what sounded like a bomb going off in her back yard. She was terrified. 1/
A digital illustration of blocky birds joined together in a stack to form a sort of Christmas tree shape. Text at the bottom reads βGoodwill to Allβ and has a glow around it like itβs been lit up. Forming the bottom of the tree are a Blue Jay facing left, a Red-breasted Nuthatch facing down, and a Tufted Titmouse facing right. The row above contains a Cedar Waxwing facing left and a male Northern Cardinal facing right. Above them is an American Robin facing left. Behind the Robin is a Snowy Owl in diamond shape peaking out. Hovering at the top, thereβs the underside of a male Ruby-throated Hummingbird facing up. He is a long shape while the rest of the birds are square. The background is a soft green.
Whatever this time of year is for you, I wish you peace.

Hanukkah comes a little late this year but on the @fuse8nkate.bsky.social podcast it's never too soon. We tackle Moishe's Miracle. Maybe it deserves classic status as an undiscovered gem. Today we discuss Gremlins, tiny demons, and so much more. #kidlit ππ afuse8production.slj.com/2024/12/16/f...

Drawing of crazed-looking face wearing glasses, with messy purple and blue hair, with handwritten quote: "If you love a book, write a nice review. It gives the author encouragement on days they want to take up scorpion petting." - by Liana Brooks. Drawing by Debbie Ridpath Ohi. A paint brush lies on the drawing.

Happy Picture Book Month! (Day 21) @debbieohi.com
It's my next book!
Itβs about survival
about overcoming isolation
about grief & anxiety and how they make us collapse in on ourselves, but how, with enough support, we can be brave enough to open back up to life and live without regrets.
Gorgeous cover by Oriol Vidal.
