For those that travel, I'd seen a remedy for removing creases/wrinkles from suitcase clothing by spraying the garment with 1tsp of fabric softener with 100mL of water while it is hanging. I tried it and it seems to work. I'll give it a full trial at #ATTD2026

Australian Domestic travel adventures. As usual I was assured the machine was safe by one officer and asked for a doctor's letter by another. The supervisor knew the exception to the letter rule which is when there is a very obvious pump attached no letter needed.

Breakfast of champions means it's interstate travel again. Managed to get a patdown after being asked if I had 'certification'. I provided none but after a few discussions got the desired outcome.

An oldie but a goodie showing relative risk. '1' on the y-axis means you have the same risk as the general population. So, 6 or below, and you're good. For higher, the ones which go up the fastest are eyes (DR/NPDR) and kidneys (Neph) so get those annual checks.

There was some talk a while ago about the BCG vaccine providing benefit to T1Ds although I'm pretty sure the jury is still out on it. I just discovered, growing up in the UK in the 70s, meant I received this vaccine roughly 40 years before getting T1D.

With a recent update of the CamAPS software, there is a tiny green '9.2' in the widget icons which changes as my BGLs change (the large 9.2 at the bottom of the screen is thanks to xDrip+).
Even without clever hackery with xDrip+ I can now see my BGLs on the lock screen :)

Something which seems to be across chronic diseases and politics is "Rage-Grifting". Basically, the monetising of Rage-bait. There is money to be made in making up conspiracies and playing to people's feelings of impotent rage, than there is in being part of the solution.

Interesting new study looking at close to 200,000 US adults over 30 years to see how a low carb diet affects the risk of type 2 diabetes. The conclusion was it is protective only if it uses plant-based protein, healthy fats, and high quality carbs. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...

The chances are it is harmless but, as the pump costs A$10k and no one is willing to certify it is safe, I'm happy to get a frisk.

We never had xray ones in Australia. While microwave ones are relatively harmless to humans, electronics and microwaves are not the best of friends. Until certified I'll get a pat down where I can.

Alas, not even middle-aged white privilege got me through this time. Domestic flight from Sydney to Canberra. Requested a path down and the security person refused insisting the new machines are safe for insulin pumps. Diabetes Australia, let's sort this out.

Think insulin resistance is a type 2 thing? It isn't. Type 1s are also insulin resistant, relative to non-diabetics. Previous studies suggest the cause is insulin running around the body, compared to non-diabetics where most of it gets cleared by the liver.

The multistage chart for type 1 diabetes. Please note that if you only test positive for 1 autoantibody you are unlikely to progress to later stage type 1. There is a lot of misinformation on social media about this aspect.

Just been watching a couple of clinicians talk about their experiences in the US with inhaled insulin. Super quick, no need for meal pre-bolus. Also may be useful on exercise days for T1D as an alternative to AID/MDI to minimise insulin on board (TI = Inhaled Insulin)
