Every time I peek on Facebook and see the kind of rhetoric my relatives are reposting, I get a sick feeling in my stomach. Really dark, violent stuff from Fox News among other sites. The gleeful way they celebrate the degrading of our institutions is terrifying.

Not to be too reductive, but this reminds me of the Eco Ur-Fascism bit about how fascists are simultaneously powerful warriors for the nation and constantly under threat from an out-group enemy.
