Been 4 months since I moved to Tokyo. The seasons have changed. The ginkgo trees, which had lost almost all of their golden leaves when I first moved to Japan back in January, are now clad in lustrous green leaves. Witnessed the ume, sakura, wisteria, azalea, peony and many more blossoming. πŸ’—

The Nobel Prize in Literature 2024 The Nobel Prize in Literature 2024 was awarded to Han Kang "for her intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life"

We discussed Han Kang’s β€œThe Fruit of My Woman,” a positively disturbing work of ecoambiguity & classical reception, in my graduate course β€œMyths Retold.”

I cackled when they had to explain to the teen what counter-clockwise means. That's what you get for never using an analog watch/clock.

A screenshot from Agatha All Along S1 E2. Agatha (Kathryn Hahn), with a smug face, is showing the list of names to Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone). The utterly delighted teen (Joe Locke), who has just planted himself in the shot and the conversation, is grinning at Lilian, who is already taken aback by the list and is looking back at him. The three witches are standing in the middle of Lilian's kitchen which also triples as her living room and bedroom.

The transfer went through, I received my documents, contacted third parties and made my application. It all happened back to back right before my doctor's appointment this morning. Now to wait for the result while I tackle the other items on my to-do list.

A comic in black and white - with a series of metaphorical and literal images. Text is as follows:
Elections, of course, have consequences. A path chosen, erases a possible future. As such, elecctions are a moment to reflect on where we’ve been and who we want to be - to consider our values, mirrored in the conduct of those we choose to represent us: They recognize, that while we’ve granted them great responsibility, they don’t stand above us, espousing their singular greatness. Rather, they stand with us, ever a public servant. Treating everyone with respect, never dividing between us and β€œthem.” But bringing people together, and being there for all.
Inset: Greek key to offset it: Greek myths warn of the dangers of hubris and the importance of hospitality.”
On it’s surface, talk of restoring the greatness of bygone eras has obvious appeal. But for whom was this great? Without a critical eye, it’s no more than a myth. For history is still with us - not so distant.
We don’t go back. Democracy moves forward. Evolving alongside our understanding, expanding as more voices are included. It changes because we change it. We cast our votes to hone those before us who made this experiment possible, and to ensure it continues for all who come after. Elections aren’t endpoints, but reminders that the work of democracy is ongoing.

Stuck at a stage where I have to patiently wait for banks to process a transfer so I can make further applications and in the meantime make myself sick worrying if someone else applies before I can.
