If you wrote a book about US civil rights, especially in the 19th century, I would like to know about it. I also like dumb jokes.

I imagine them trying to swim away from the burning tanker and their oversized shoes filling with water and dragging them down.

I think economists and policy experts do know this. I think pretty much anyone who has read a history book not written by Bill O'Reilly knows this. I think the fact that the people responsible for this war don't know this tells you who was and wasn't involved in the decision making on this.

This is definitely one of those things where I'm sure Iran has lots of aspirations. What evidence is there that this is worth spending time thinking about? Seems like it's along the lines of my aspirations to finally get in shape this year.

@repescobar.bsky.social This seems like someone at DHS might have purposefully lied to you.

Mostly agree, but I think the starting premise should be that those reasons are present b/c they were nominated by Trump. If someone is competent, has integrity, can swear an oath to uphold the Const, isn't corrupt, they can prove it easily. That's just baseline public servant.

The USS Canberra is ours. It's named after a WWII era battleship (FKA USS Pittsburgh) that was named in honor of an Royal Navy ship that had been sunk the year before at the Battle of Salvo Island.

Back when they did this at the end of Trump's last admin there was a bunch of reporting on how we had insufficient assets in the area to deal with it. Since then, my understanding is the last 4 avenger mine sweepers were decommissioned. Is it just the Canberra there now?

Islam is irrelevant to this. This is a simple 1st A question. If this was anything other than bigotry baiting, one might wonder if Johnson had ever read the 1st A's restriction on the establishment of religion and if he understood. But Johnson's just a liar who cosplays religiosity for votes.

Insurrectionist Brunch: Trumpists plotted to deploy military on U.S. soil Before the 2024 election, a cadre of MAGA loyalists met over brunch to plot ways for Trump to use the military domestically.

This is just astonishingly great reporting.

All of the crises the White House has claimed over the last 14 months were planned in advance. All of them.

And however much contempt you have for media outlets who reverently relayed Trump's claim to have no relation to Project 2025, it isn't enough.

The South put up with huge amounts of poverty and low economic growth and opportunity for two centuries to maintain racial privileges. You could argue MS, AL, and LA still are.

Having lived in Texas during the round of textbook wars in the '90s, I am permanently skeptical of any legislature involvement in setting curriculum. Also, I think if we want to retain good teachers, we need to trust that they care more about what they're teaching day to day than politicians.

Hallucination-Free? Assessing the Reliability of Leading AI Legal Research Tools | Stanford Law School Legal practice has witnessed a sharp rise in products incorporating artificial intelligence (AI). Such tools are designed to assist with a wide range

I'm assuming you saw the Stanford paper, but it blew my mind that even the best purpose specific AU was only 60% accurate. Who in their right mind would go into court with a 40% chance of embarrassing themselves?

I'm sure this is going to end up in law school exams b/c it's so problematic from a federalism/admin law stand point. How do you make a CFR for a state law matter without any federal stat authority?

I wonder if that was the impetus for the proposed CFR change notice yesterday.

It seems really contingent on what time period you're talking about, although there is a steep increase towards the later years IMO. You'd have to calculate the rate of change of turdiness over time. I feel like you'd have to use calculus.

John Roberts had bad judgment. He's always wrong about the impact his decisions will have. He was wrong about this, he was wrong in Citizens United, he was wrong in Shelby, he was wrong in Dobbs. He's been wrong about Trump.

Writing is about communication. If it doesn't "read well" it's failing in its purpose. Just tautologically, communication is supposed to communicate.

I feel like about once a week the NY Times has something like this in the paper as an insult to people who subscribe. I'll read an article like this and realize they want me to know they have no respect for me. If Jamelle Bouie wasn't there I would just read USA Today at this point.
