In my new paper with @bill-finlayson.bsky.social we explore the weaponisation of cultural heritage beyond armed conflict, and examine how its destruction, preservation, and representation can be strategically manipulated in political and social contexts—to shape identities or erase those of others.
My new paper, co-authored with our late colleague F. Nazari, "Submerged Past: Dam Construction & Cultural Heritage Protection in Iran," examines the impact of dam projects since the 1950s, exploring policy gaps, funding challenges & emergency rescues—plus case studies & remote sensing insights.

It's our 10 year anniversary! We thank Bob Bewley, David Kennedy & Andrew Wilson our co-founders, @ox.ac.uk for supporting us, Arcadia & the British Council for backing us, all our colleagues past & present who joined us, and our partners in the MENA region whom we have worked & collaborated with!
Our collaboration with the MOTA and DOA teams has focused on their datasets, including damaged cultural heritage sites in #Gaza, archaeological sites in the Tafila region of Jordan, and Ammonite towers in Amman.
The outcome will be the publication of data papers in open-access journals.
The PADA workshop aims to introduce digital tools that facilitate the publication of archaeological and cultural heritage datasets, addressing the digital divide and overcoming barriers faced by Global South scholars and field archaeologists in disseminating their research.
