March’s feast days continue - today is the Feast of St Constantine, a King of Kernow 〓〓 who gave up his throne, travelled to Ireland 🇮🇪 thence to Scotland 🏴 and is remembered in Wales 🏴 The feast was marked in St Merryn by eating limpet pies, holding a church service and having a hurling match.
The Feast of St Senan, an Irish saint 🇮🇪 and contemporary of Sen Dewi who may have given his name to Sennen in west Kernow 〓〓
This should be a basic human right - not a dream.

On this day in 1999, South Crofty closed, ending 4,000 years of tin working in Kernow. The preceding day had seen very limited celebrations of St Piran.
Today, South Crofty is returning to tin production and yesterday marked the largest celebration yet of St Piran.

So much for Lenten abstinence - another Celtic feast day! St Winwaloe was of Cornish stock 〓〓 but born in Breizh ➕ where he founded a monastery at Landévennec. He came to Kernow and is remembered at Landewednack, Tremaine, Towednack and Poundstock. Crêpes all round!

A week of Celtic nations’ saints feasts opens with that of St Dewi, who gave his name to Davidstow (traditionally, Dewstow) in north Kernow. His mother Non gave her name to the neighbouring parish of Altarnun.

On this day in 1799, former West African slave Joseph Emidy was set free from the Royal Navy in Falmouth after being forced to serve aboard HMS Indefatigable for four years. He remained in Kernow, married a Cornishwoman and went on to lead the Truro Philharmonic Orchestra
