This is the second big paper from my lab this year and resumes TMS targets across 4β283 patients w Schizophrenia, upcoming in Molecular Psychiatry π§²π§
Great work led by Lorina Sinanaj&Kostas Pallis at Synapsy Center Neuroscience and Mental Health Researchπ€©
#SOBP25 was great fun and easily one of the best conferences in the last years - so happy to catch up with friends and colleagues and speak also on my favorite brain region: the cerebellum! π©΅
Our new paper is out. We point out that large brained (and often smart) mammals and birds have evolved very different distribution of neurons numbers in the brain.
This means that similar cognitive abilities have evolved in very different brains.

I have two papers under review since forever. Itβs really not cool.π #scientificventing
πππ₯π₯ we got this!
Itβs really heart breaking to realize just how much our short horizon, outcome focused funding cycles hurt science. We could do so much more if we could invest in people long term. Staff scientist positions and an ecosystem to support them are direly needed.
Itβs beginning to look a lot like Christmas @fcbg-neuro.bsky.social ! βοΈπ
I will be also talking at #SIRS2025 in Chicago - Little Brain World Tour! πΎ
Happy to present at #SOBP2025 in Toronto in the midst of a highly distinguished crowd - if youβre attending, letβs meet! #latergram #catchingupwithbluesky
Letβs run the government like a business, drive the car like a bicycle, and play the guitar like a piano
Fantastic talk by @indrit_begue making the case that we should look at the cerebellum to treat schizophrenia using neuromodulation! #optodbs2024
One of my most intricate and painfully made pieces. This is the "Purkinje bear", composed of the 37 neurons individually, and manually cut in different woods. #neuroscience #brain #cerebellum #sciart
I too really enjoyed grad school π€π©βπ» - I LOVED scientific conversations with coffee, discussing experiments and hypotheses. Honestly, few things beat analysing freshly acquired data on a newly designed experiment π§
Accelerated cerebellar TMS for negative symptoms of schizophrenia in a triple blind RCT βATHENAβ - here with my fantastic lab!
How does one find cerebellum people in the good place? π
They capture you so well! So sunny!

i plan to move to Korea later this year, & will soon hire at all levels (students, postdocs, staff scientists, junior PIs) -

my lab in Japan will run till at least 2025. my job has been nothing but the dream job. but hopefully the above explains it.

Sample sizes to obtain at least 90 % power and at most 10 % error for the association strength, weight, scores, and loadings.
How many people do you need to scan to get robust estimates for multivariate methods such as CCA and PLS?
The sobering answer is: likely several thousand (there is a calculator now)

Another fun fact: the cerebellum white matter is called Arbor vitae, the tree of life. Thanks for the great photos
These Purkinje cell look like trees are awesome.
